90-degree Simplicity

So, by now, I think we’ve established that New York Fashion Week breeds some interesting ensembles both on and off the runway.

Quirky color combos, strange silhouettes — you name it. And we aren’t just talking about the catwalk.

Day Two of was one of my busiest days of the week — it was also one of the hottest. And literally, you guys, everyone was running around dressed like it was the Polar freakin’ Vortex.

I’m not kidding! You know how people pretend they’re warm despite the fact that they’re wearing next-to-nothing in the winter? It’s that, but the reverse of it.

While the unseasonably humid temps didn’t stop the Fashion Week crowd from prancing around in fur sweaters and lots of layers, all I could handle was one single layer of figure-flattering perfection — a la this Nicole Miller dress. (I needed all the help I could get given my cupcake/bagel diet this week, as explained in yesterday’s recap.)

Simplicity was the fashion focal point for me on Day Two. As was linen. Breathable fabric was key.

New York Fashion Week is as good of an excuse as any to push the style envelope — and I’ve worn some pretty outrageous items (including spacesuits!) — but furry knits in 90 degrees? No way, man.

Libbi (my giveaway winner, below) had a similar mindset. She’s crushing it in that fringe skirt!
