My Perfect Pair: Over-the-Knee Boots

I’ve been wanting an over-the-knee boot ever since I first laid eyes on those unbelievable Stuart Weitzman 5050 boots. You’re probably in the same boat, aren’t you? (Before we move on, you should know there’s a few pairs of OTK Weitzman’s on sale — here and here.)

Though I can argue the case for investing in a good pair of boots any damn day, I haven’t purchased the 5050’s because they’re a bit out of my price range. And, you know, a girl’s gotta eat. First, rent. Then, shoes.

Nonetheless, I hadn’t stopped dreaming about adding this specific shoe to my closet — until Jeffrey.

I bought these over-the-knee ‘Basie’ booties about a month ago. They were the last pair and size in stock, to which I attributed an act of fate. Obviously, right?

It was one of those see-them-and-buy-on-the-spot purchases. No hesitation. I haven’t regretted it.

I’ve been seeing all these dating app advertisements around New York for “the one” and “the perfect pair,” and I’m all like — Yep, done. FINALLY! I’ve got mine.

I realize I’m comparing men to shoes, but, you know… We’re on the same page. Unless you’ve already got your man, in which case, GET THE SHOES!

Anyway, in case you’re wondering: The zipper detailing at the base makes them very easy to slip on (and off — but why would you?) and the stretchy, thigh-high leather shell will keep you very cozy this fall and come winter.

I held off on posting this outfit to see if they’d come back in stock — and thankfully for you, they did. In every single size! For now, at least.

The tricky part? Figuring how to wear this boot trend.

Now, I love Julia Roberts, but let’s stay away from looking like Pretty Woman. Keep it covered up top — opt for a chic sweater dress or longer-in-length tunic that hits right at the thigh (below that fingertip) and allows a bit of breathing room between your over-the-knee boots and hemline.

Get ready to break some necks, girlfriend.

  10. What a great find! Don’t you love when shopping stars align like that? One of the questions my styling clients always ask me is if this look (over-the-knee) is only a trend for the under 30 crowd. Hell, to the NO! You’re outfit is perfection for any woman, at any age. Can’t wait to share :)

  11. I tried on the 5050s over the weekend and am SO bummed that they’re too tall on me. By like 2.5″ too. On to bigger and better things…. Chanel?

  13. THIS!!!!!!! may be one of my fav outfits from you. I love a mean OTK boot that is flat. In the winter time here in Milwaukee, I prefer a nice flat boot to move around easily in the snow and ice but one that is still sexy and stylish. I’ve had a few pairs (one in suede that was point toed but got ruined cuz I refused to buy suede protector smh) & a rounder toe’d slouchy pair. I am in need of one a bit more polished and this may be it.

  14. check out Franco Sarto L-Motor OTK (Amazon sells them, $100 w/promo) The flat heel and stretchy back for the snug fit of the 5050’s but with a zipper for easy on/off. I tried the 5050’s but believe you should not get sweaty trying to get your boots on! At 1/5th the price it’s no worry if they get trashed in the Chicago winter or beer spilled on them in a bar.
