Hi, nice to meet you.

Here's a bit more about me (and if you'd like to keep in touch, you can find me on Instagram, Twitter and Facebook).
I hope you enjoy reading corals + cognacs as much as I enjoy writing it.
FAQ //LOCATION: New York, New York •BY WAY OF: The Midwest (Cleveland/Chicago) •HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE YOUR STYLE? Attainable, trendy and fun. I’m constantly wearing unexpected pairings – like statement pumps and a graphic tee. •FAVORITE ITEM IN YOUR CLOSET? The vintage Gucci clutch I thrifted for $40. •ANY OBSESSIONS? I like my coffee black, my heels high and my martinis dirty. •GUILTY PLEASURES? Complex carbohydrates and shoe shopping -- both in excess. (And SoulCycle, as a result.)
ARE YOU A FULL-TIME BLOGGER? No, I work as a Development Manager and Contributing Editor at Glam.com. •WHY DID YOU START YOUR BLOG? I've spent nearly seven years on the corporate grind, where sartorial humor and an expertly crafted color-block can get lost in the boardroom. As a result, I decided to create a blog -- a space where I’d hoped my writing, styling and excessive shoe collection would be better comprehended. •WHAT’S IT ABOUT? Living stylish and spontaneously in New York City – and beyond. I aim to inspire others to have fun with fashion and to live lightheartedly •HOW’D YOU THINK OF THE NAME? To be honest, the name just came to me. I’m a big color-blocker and a sucker for alliteration in writing. It just fit. •WHAT’S THE CORRECT WAY TO WRITE IT? corals + cognacs.
HOW DO YOU PRONOUNCE IT? corals and cone-yaks. •WHAT KIND OF CAMERA DO YOU USE? A Canon T3i with a 50mm f/1.4 lens. •DON’T YOU FEEL WEIRD TAKING PHOTOS OF YOURSELF? Absolutely. Everyone looks at me like I’m insane – especially when it’s cold. Wouldn’t you? •DO YOU WORK WITH ADVERTISERS/SPONSORS? Yep! Shoot me an e-mail and let’s talk. •HOW ELSE CAN WE KEEP IN TOUCH? On Twitter, Facebook and Instagram.
Well, holiday (party) season is pretty much upon us — and if there’s anything I love about this time of year (the parties, I mean), it’s the loads and loads of opportunity to dress super festive, swanky and chic.
Tomorrow night — pre-Thanksgiving Eve — is like the official unofficial kick-off of holiday party season… Do you have plans?
I’ll be spending mine at 30,000 feet — and probably in yoga pants. I’m teaching Soul at 4:30, battling commuter rush hour on my way to the airport, where I’m hopping on the last flight outta Chi-town. It’s a short trip home (Ohio!), though, and I don’t mind. I’m happy to have a day off and the opportunity to spend it at home. (I haven’t had a single day off from riding/exercising/teaching since I moved to Chicago on July 1… Not complaining — I love my job — but holy hip flexors, man.)
At any rate, we’re not talking about spinning or spandex today — for once, ha!
In my book, the holiday party dress code is super simple: Find one go-to Little Black Dress that’ll command any type of cocktail party…
In a tasteful way, of course.
I’ve been working on consolidating my closet, so I’ve been on a search primarily for one dress that’ll work for every single holiday-related soiree I’m hitting up this year — whether it’s a beau’s office party or a Friendsgiving-themed night with the gals.
One and done, my friends. One and done…
Something that will and still look chic after a few glasses of champagne. (And, by nature of being the only go-to, one that’s machine washable.)
I found this LBD number on Zappos a few weeks ago and I knew she was the winner.
I love the deeper V-neck shape, and the fact that the hemline hits just above the knee makes this dress appropriate for any type of party. (A matching red clutch is always a nice pop of color, too. Here’s a cute style from Rebecca Minkoff that’s under $100.)
Three of my favorite elegant, foolproof party pieces are a fitted little black dress, festive red shoes and a fierce red lip. For today’s look, I kept the rest of my make-up minimal- it’s all about the red accessories.
Side-note: The story behind these red pumps is pretty cool, too. Stuart Weitzman created them for Virgin America flight attendants, but set aside a few pairs to sell exclusively on Zappos.com for a (very) limited time.
Given who they were created for, it should come as no surprise to hear that they’re insanely comfortable. And that’s a must!
Holiday ready or not, at least you’ve got your get-up on lock…
Speaking of which: Tomorrow I’m posting about my Cyber Monday/Black Friday shopping strategies and advice, so check back in before your Turkey Day celebrations. Safe travels this week!

I can’t believe it’s been so long since you’ve had a day off! My hip flexors hurt just thinking about it. Safe travels home and have an awesome Thanksgiving!
Teaching one class per day is totally sustainable, but lately I’ve been subbing often/teaching doubles or triples every week/end. I’m excited! Hope you have a great holiday, too. : )
You look gorgeous in this dress, Hallie! Glad you are getting a much deserved break this Thanksgiving. I hope you have a fantastic week! Also, I’ll be visiting Chicago this next weekend, so hopefully I can stop by one of your classes to say hi.
Unrelated to this post, I went to cycle this morning for the first time in 1 years (since having my daughter) and about died! I kept thinking Hallie would kick my ass if I was in her class and I HAVE TO SUCCEED.
I guess that’s to say you motivated me throughout my workout today! 😉
That dress is stunning!
The fit is SO flattering. Highly recommend!
