What I’m Wearing: High-Waisted Shorts
A week(ish) ago, I escaped Chicago’s winter weather to visit my sister in Houston, Texas. It wasn’t quite 70-and-sunny, but it was still warm enough to pack shorts, sundresses and my favorite D&G cowboy booties.
Oh, high-waisted bottoms… Often misunderstood by the non-fashion savvy among us. These sophisticated, vintage-inspired styles have become more and more mainstream over the past few years, and much to the dismay of many males around me, I couldn’t be happier about it!
When tailored to your body type, the high-waisted trend is an easy way to elongate your legs and accentuate your waist. These short shorts range in style from dramatically demure to fitted and flattering, but the key is to find bottoms that hit your natural waist and hug your hips.
A lightweight cardigan or structured jacket worn over a tucked-in T-shirt is my favorite counterpart to this slim-and-tailored short. Toss on a pair of heels (and, for now, opaque black tights) and you’ve got a great going-out look!
Wearing: Urban Outfitters shorts (similar) and cardigan, D&G boots (similar), Ray-Ban sunglasses, David Yurman bracelet, other borrowed jewelry
I’m eyeing these for my next pair… In the meantime, here’s your super-simple cheat sheet on how-to style this trend >> Step 1: Tuck in your shirt; Step 2 (Optional): Put on a belt; Step 3: Loosen your shirt slightly. Voila!

You look fab! I often have a problem with the length of the waist on high-waisted pants and skirts…a lot of the time the distance from the waist to the top of the thighs is too long and then I get that gross front butt thing. I’m guessing that if I found a pair that fit appropriately it would look as great as you do here!

Thanks for stopping by, Lindsey! It’s a total hit-or-miss trend. I like to layer a longer top over these shorts so they aren’t as in-your-face-high-waist, so-to-speak. Belts really help, too!
Head to toe love (or should I say head to toe to wrist)
Great seeing you last night! Sorry I missed your shoot, but that photo on Twitter was STUNNING! Can’t wait to see all the photos!

Ahhh I know - I got so lucky! Scooped them up at a Gilt City sample sale about a year ago. Saw them on the ground in the dressing room and dove across the room… Obvi.
Digging the cuff! Love your style : )
