Day-to-Night (+ another $50 Nordstrom Rack Giveaway!) [Closed]

Earlier this week, we got Game Day Glam, and today we’re going day-to-night. You’ll notice a few repeat offenders in this post, but I’m repurposing four pieces from my first look to show you it’s possible to invest in a few affordably priced pieces to wear different ways. (And so I could save $$ to offer up $150 in Nordstrom Rack gift cards for you to get your shop on!)

For today’s day-to-night look, I started with a bold foundation. I found this sequined Rachel Zoe stunner on clearance at Nordstrom Rack for 80% off… Yes, really. [Pause for effect.]

Anchored with neutrals, an embellished top instantly becomes daytime appropriate — proof that a navy blazer, cognac loafers and a taupe bag can take you anywhere. Including the office.

After work, I stashed my nine-to-five gear, tucked in my top to reveal a neon belt and threw on a pair of pumps. (THE pumps.)

Voila! Happy hour-ready.

  6. Call me crazy, but on Fridays I often wear Flamenco or tall character shoes to work. They’re hot and healed but totally comfortable. And at night I’m ready to go out dancing.

  10. I have a cobalt blue BCBG dress that looks great with a cardigan or blazer for work and then amazing with heels and statement jewelry for evening. I always get compliments on it!

    Now, if I could only figure out how to wear my gold sequined mini dress to work….

  20. Not a clothing item but red lipstick is my favorite day to night look. Classic with no make-up during the day and then up the the eyeliner to a more cat-like style to make it sexy and sultry.

  26. Last year at Nordstrom Rack actually, I found a pair of brown boots that are my ultimate day-to-night fall/winter piece. Whether worn for casual Friday (today) with jeggings, a slouchy shirt and a cardigan or earlier this week with a dress and blazer, they always feel just right.

  28. My favorite day-to-night piece is a good blazer. It instantly makes a boring work outfit more put-together and interesting, and you can simply alter the pieces you’re wearing underneath to transition it into night!

  35. Recently, I’ve been dressing up and down a pair of dark red denim. The weather has been getting chillier so they’re perfect to wear with a chunky sweater and flats when I’m running around town, but also work just as well with some black pumps and a polka dot blouse when I go out.

    They’re just the perfect shade that work well in the sunlight and in the barlight… ;)

  46. This fall, my favorite piece to wear day-to-night is a perfectly faded chambray top with embroidered skulls by Genetic Denim! Dress down with dark denim skinnies for day; with leather skirt for night!

  50. A pencil skirt plus a button-down. Undue an extra button, add heels with a little more sass, and things can leave 9 to 5 fast. Love your look and the amazing deal you got on the top.

  52. I like to wear pretty, sheer blouses under a blazer with skinny pants for day and ditch the blazer, add some flashy sandals, and some jewelry and you’re ready for a night out! Note: It’s still crazy hot here in Los Angeles!

  54. I love the versatility of a simple t-shirt dress. You can dress it down with sandals and a jean jacket or make it going-out appropriate with a blazer, heels, and statement necklace.

  60. For fall, I love to dresses that transition from day to night. I wear them to work with boots and a scarf, and then replace the scarf with a statement necklace and the boots with pumps for a night out on the town!

  92. I don’t do day to night as much anymore, but I always thought a good pair of jeans and a cute top were a good strategy. I’d wear a cardigan or sweater over it to work and then could take it off to mingle in the evenings.
