Not-so Basic Black

You know this by now, but I’ve accidentally perfected the art of becoming a Serial Snooze Artist.**

When this happens, as it does — or worse, a closet crisis or mounting pile of laundry paralyzes my outfitting abilities — I keep calm and reach for two key pieces (that currently have stakeholder status in the real estate of my wardrobe): A semi-sheer blouse and a comfortable pair of cotton pants.

This was a look that I knew needed to take me from day-to-night (I wore it to Pepperologie a few weeks back), which is why I grabbed a cropped denim jacket on my way out the door.

Sure, punchy accessories up the ante on an otherwise boring ensemble, but next time you’re in a wardrobe rut (or a rush), try layering statement necklaces to pack even more of a punch.

  1. Even with 2.5 closets full of clothes (something I didn’t think about when we bought our house was closet size, they’re super-small!), I somehow find myself gravitating towards all-black outfits fairly often… I think it stems from a job I had in my early years of college where an all-black-and-white dress code was required. I always love to dress them up with pops of color! I LOVE your shoes! Also, the nail polish… is it Essie Lights? It looks so fun paired with the blues of your accessories!

    • Girl, 2.5 closets? Can I move in?

The nail polish is actually Color Club — not a brand I’d normally reach for, but it’s surprisingly long-lasting! I can’t remember the name, but it’s the only hot pink color they have. 🙂

      • Just want to interject here… Hallie, you have THREE closets. 2 of which that are massive. And the third is double the size of my one closet. JUST SAYIN! 🙂

  2. Love your layered necklaces — and how well the light blue and maroon go with black. Not a pairing I would’ve originally thought of but I love it!

  3. I love how chic all black looks with brigher accessories (those shoes!!), but for some reason I never wear it. I think it’s because from the time I was 16-22 I worked at a salon where I was only allowed to wear all black. Now, I just go crazy with color 😉 but maybe it’s okay every so often to go back to all black. I’ll have to try it!
