Last week, I mentioned that the Brooklyn Bridge Park was one of my favorite spots in the city.

Or one of my favorite spots just outside the city, more accurately. Brooklyn is just a hop, skip and subway ride away, but I don’t venture off The Island as much as I could or should.

Nonetheless, one recent weekend I trekked across the East River and spent the morning wandering DUMBO, drinking too much coffee and, as a result, trying a number of new restaurants (partially due to my secret agenda to use the restroom — I have a small bladder).

I’ve quickly fallen in love with the DUMBO area (which stands for Down Under the Manhattan Bridge Overpass) — particularly the Brooklyn Bridge Park and Brooklyn Heights Promenade areas, as they arguably boast the best views the city. You can see the southern tip of the island (including the Freedom Tower) all the way to buildings along the Upper East Side. In addition, you have camera-worthy views of the Brooklyn and Manhattan bridges.

Have you been? If not, the next time you find yourself with a few free hours in New York City and you’re up for a walk, I highly suggest exploring the area. So as long as it’s at least 50 degrees, that is.

  1. Absolutely in love with that hat! How is it that you wear hats so well! I’m completely jealous - most of them don’t even fit my head! Loving the classic green/black combo going on here! And your background is gorgeous - what a nice area of New York!

  2. I LOVE Brooklyn! In fact I stayed with a girlfriend exactly where you are talking about for a couple of days while I was in town for NYFW- I know its kind of a pain to subway it but there are so many fun places to go and of course - amazing food. I am already planning my next trip - I was going to go to the FABB conference but couldn’t make it this week. Are you going?

    • I’m pretty maxed out on PTO with my end-of-the-year trip to Thailand, so no, have to stay in the office this week. Looks like we’ll be participating virally/via Twitter together.

Hope to see you back in NYC soon. Stay warm - I hear Chicago has snow in the forecast… ; )

  3. I spent the Fourth of July in Dumbo on my friend’s little roof terrace-you’re right about the view. It was amazing and a great way to see the fireworks. I also made the trek out to BK a few time over the summer for Smorgasburg. If you haven’t been, you must go! Such amazing food and views. .

    • I haven’t been to Smorgasburg but I’ve heard it needs to be at the top of my list! Consider me sold, thanks for pushing me past the tipping point. 🙂

And, a rooftop in DUMBO? Talk about friends with benefits! I’m green with envy. x

  7. LOVE this whole look on you-the hat & top look so fab together, & those pants…well, you already know my feelings. Glad you’re discovering more of BK-you’ll have to venture to Boerum Hill soon, too (great boutiques & a picturesque stroll down Atlantic, one of my favorites). Also agreed with the above comment about Smorgasburg-it’s so incredible!!!
