Target Trends, Vol. 1: Oxblood

As you may know, I’ve amassed quite the curated collection from Target this season (including these eight pieces). Most recently, the buzz has been all about this bordeaux beauty.

I could preach the Target gospel day-in and day-out (the retailer is typically my go-to for budget fashion finds), but today I’d prefer to focus on the trend that’s resurfaced during my seasonal wardrobe refresh.

Oxblood: That pretty wine-like color that falls somewhere between burgundy and bordeaux — and it’s everywhere… Still. Dominating the runway for the past two seasons and my closet since mid-2011 (mental note: it’s time to re-create these two corporate and cozy looks).

Wearing black-on-black day-in and day-out a few weeks into fall can start to bring you down, so with that said, I’m back to backing the oxblood trend for the upcoming winter-weather season. In my opinion, it’s is just a rich shade of neutral — one that makes working color into your outfit is as easy as shopping for paint by the number. (That’s a saying, right? I’m really domestic.)

Thankfully, Target makes a wardrobe refresh affordable and easy. Here are some of my favorite simple styling combinations:

This versatile hue works as a pop of color or as a full monochromatic look without being overwhelming. To accessorize, I’d go bold with a bright bag or a mix of shades, textures and fabrics. A color like cobalt will pop against a burgundy skirt. It’s fashion — anything goes.
