Indian Summer

During the wacky-weathered months of September and October (aka that in-between season), calculating a thoughtfully styled look can feel a lot like homework. And, honestly, ain’t nobody got time for that.

It’s unseasonably warm in New York today, so an all-white, almost-autumn ensemble felt appropriate to share.

I originally styled this look when I was brainstorming looks for a recent collaboration with Visa. My goal was to bring an easy fashion equation (all white err’thang) to the next level with some basic, light layering.

Turns out, Middle America doesn’t love The Vest like we do, so a this outfit was the winner instead. Either way, I loved how easy, breezy and anything-but-basic this ensemble was, so it actually a served as a repeat offender over the course of the summer.

As you’ll notice above, I could barely keep a straight face during this shoot — but with good reason. Jess and I joke that anytime we assume the position (to photograph outfit posts) in a quiet location, Grand Central freakin’ Station emerges from the woodwork and flocks between us and our cameras.

On this particular morning when Lydia and I were wandering the West Village, an actual parade of 40+ people on walking city tour just happened to be exploring this very corner of Manhattan.

Hi, everyone. Yes, I’m taking photos of myself to put on the Internet. Move along.

*Wearing: Gap jeans, Loft blouse, Club Monaco vest (love this one), Zara sandals, Ann Taylor necklace, Tory Burch sunnies

  1. Hah, that post made me laugh! I always wonder how bloggers manage to take outfit photos in this crowded city. Plus I feel like people always are staring even if you’re not doing anything interesting, so I can only imagine how they would gawk at someone being photographed. Move along, indeed! Too funny. Anyway great between seasons outfit!

  2. HAAA, love the commentary. I’ve taken to just waving to passersby like I’m an actual celebrity. They think I’m nuts, but whatever works. PS, digging the white on white.

  3. I lived in middle america for 4 years….we called girls “so ohio” when the bad high lights and tacky but kinda slutty clothes came out of the closet!

  4. Love the all white outfit! That vest is too cute. You should have totally acted like a celeb when people looked at you. They would have believed it!

  5. I feel you on that lady! I hate finding outfits for this weather… I feel like its jeans and a light sweater or blouse every single day. and that’s boring. but I’m too cold in skirts/shorts, too warm in leggings/boots/sweaters (plus that looks weird when its randomly 80 degrees out!). Today it was a black maxi and jean jacket - I finally got a tiny bit creative. LOVE your look though, and love that you wore white past labor day :)

  6. so jealous of the 80’s NYC has today. It’s SO fall here in Seattle, but I did get the opportunity to rock faux leather leggings and a warm sweater so it’s not all bad.
on another note, the fact you made a shout out to that awesome “aint nobody got time for that” lady kills me. I think I love you.

  7. That is so a reason why I’m glad I live on the outskirts of a city. Being able to, generally easily, find a totally secluded space to take pictures. And, you know, crazy beautiful views now that the leaves are changing and everything’s the color of perfect.
