Day-Glo

For better or for worse, today’s post is festively snow-dusted.

basic black blazer styling ideas

I’m no stranger to Midwestern winters (I lived in Chicago for six years), and while I love an excuse to layer up in all black err’thang, the slushy metropolitan climate splashing across the East Coast does little to whet my sartorial palette.

And by that, I mean I’d rather run around in fleece-lined leggings and flat black boots than worry about wearing my cab-to-curb heels. Right?

For me, getting dressed in these mid-season months poses a dilemma: Although spring is far in the future (asshole groundhog), I’m growing tired of wearing my winter wardrobe of black-on-black day-in and day-out.

Perhaps you’re in the same boat: Hitting a wall every morning as you stand towel-dried in front of your closet with absolutely nothing to wear. Or lying to your co-workers with the claim that you have “two pairs of those same jeans.” Yes? Completely hypothetical situation…

Thankfully, I’ve recently re-discovered these green pants — a key player in my closet since last fall. They add textural interest to my ensemble and offer a much-needed reprieve from my go-to skinny jeans (… you know, that pair I have two of).

In other words, they’re my hot-ticket item to getting out of the winter style slumps. I’m used to wearing them with neutrals (here and here, for example), but I love how a touch of day-glo delivers a dose of renewed vigor.

  1. “I have two of those jeans…” haha, that is so me. I wear these same Club Monaco jeans constantly…hopefully no one notices :). I LOVE those army green pants! I’ve been looking for the perfect pair of those forever (so hard to find any that are long enough on me). Those look awesome on you, I love the moto details.

  2. I love these pants, too! Now that it’s around freezing every day (as opposed to 10 below it) I feel ready to wear them again…they’re a nice break from the pair of jeans (that I just bought a second pair of so I don’t feel so guilty about wearing them every. single. day.).

  3. Loving the hot pink beanie and shoes! Perfect pop of color for the miserable winter. Hope to see you this week!!!

  4. Oh Lord… I am so there. I’m sick and tired of all my clothes. I hate wearing pants, but the temps are too low to sport dresses and skirts. I’m in the Detroit area and we are running out of places to put the snow. This winter has been BAD. Bring on spring!!!

  5. I’m at the point where I’m like - f**k this weather! I have way too many cute shoes in my closet that have been forced to start collecting dust because of this weather. I’m ready for SPRING! Confession - I too have been sneaking in non-winter approved shoes latley too. Love the pop of neon you added to this look w/ the beanie and shoes. Rock on chica! :)

  6. Loving this entire look…especially the pink slingbacks. I’ll have to try Rich and Skinnies! Thanks for the recommendation. Did you shoot these pics using your 50mm lens? They look fabulous!
