White-washed

I learned something crazy this week.

One of my preachers SoulCycle instructors was explaining the power of barometric pressure (the weight of the air around us) and how it dictates the way that we feel. Have you heard this?

Accordingly, lower pressure in the atmosphere can alter our moods (negatively so), trigger headaches and cause joint aches… And some major bitch-at-rest face, I imagine.

I’ve read varying studies supporting this theory, but at the end of the day I’m very much an “energy person,” so I believe there’s a lot of truth to be had behind this correlation.

Cold weather supplies us with many laughable metaphors (and work-related e-mail correspondences), but for the time being, my disposition toward this past season is anything but sunny.

Said another way, I’m just so. f—king. over it.

What I do know is that the weather gods are turning my emotions into a fickle force of nature. Similarly, I’m unstable, severe, dark and gloomy. (Okay, I’m exaggerating, but only a little.)

Sigh. At least we’re in this together, huh? In the meantime, I’m going to white-wash my outfits — like so — in an effort to hurry along more hopeful signs of spring. And, of course, I plan to continue my almost-daily routine of drowning my sorrows in a full-bodied glass of Cabernet.

  1. Look, I’m a winter person through and through - and I’m over this snow! I have a half marathon on Sunday that is going to KICK MY ASS because there has been so much snow, ice, and sub-freezing temperatures this winter that I’ve barely run. It’s nearly April, enough with the snow already! Can I blame the barometric pressure for my mood swing?

  2. Ohhhhh, I love this combo! And I totally agree with you–this weather needs to hit the road ASAP. I have bad knees and they’ve been killing me the past few weeks with the insane random temps we’ve been having (have I convinced you I’m an 80-year-old woman yet? ok good.)

  3. Your “preacher” is spot on. Seasonal affective disorder is a real thing + people in NYC are much friendlier when the sun is shining and the weather is nice. In other words, we need spring stat! Anyway, love the cropped sweater/blouse combo and always a fan of those boots.

  4. Your tie-dye is so on point—and I am right there with you. Not only does the pressure alter your mood, but even the slightest change in hydration can make you feel depressed or moody, and dry winter air really doesn’t help with that. Bring it (already), spring!

  5. I am TOTALLY over this winter. Even my best boots/coats look beyond beat. Taking outfit photos for the blog is a lesson in cold weather endurance. Where are you Spring?! All weather complaints aside, your outfit is 100% adorable. You give my wardrobe hope.

  6. If I have to scrape ice/snow off of my car one more time….

I’m glad I’m not the only one who turns to a nice oversized glass of red wine to help warm up. It’s truly the only thing getting me through this season.

Here’s hoping the weather gets it’s act together soon…or else I’m moving even further south!
