A Statement Isn’t a Statement

Nothing says easy weekend wear quite like a little chambray, right?

chic ways to wear chambray

Figuring out what to wear with a denim shirt is a no-brainer in my book, since you can practically pair them with anything.

As such, I packed my closet’s MVP to work over-time (for both night and day), since I was hell-bent on bring nothing but a little weekender bag to Chicago last week.

Chambray is surprisingly practical given the suffocating humidity that’s recently blanketed Manhattan (and the Midwest); but there’s no doubt that we’ve officially embarked into half-blown bun season.

The half-blown bun is my lazy girl solution to seeking respite from the heat and humidity. It’s easy, really: Blow-dry your hair just a bit so that your heating tool sets the style, twist it back into a low bun and you’re out the door. Not my best look, but hey — neither is frizzy hair and sweat beads on the nape of your neck. Plus, by the time you get to where you’re goin’, you can brush out the waves for a undone, beachy look.

I’ll meet you in the middle on this one, Mother Nature…

Now, you’ve likely heard, but my friend Grace Atwood (of Stripes & Sequins) recently launched a killer summer collaboration with BaubleBarHave you seen it?

My favorite pieces are the crystal mason ring and the crystal pheasant bib, the latter of which I packed to dress up a few of my more functional basics throughout last week’s trip. Jewelry is such a simple way to reinvigorate the pieces that are already in your wardrobe (and after sale season I am on a seeerious self-imposed shopping ban — with the exception of this insane J.Crew one).

As I often do, I chose to wear BB’s gem-stone necklace with a simple neckline – because after all, a statement isn’t a statement unless it can be seen.

  1. You look wonderful! I’m on vacation this week and packed as little as possible as I only wanted to bring a carry-on. I totally thought of you while I was figuring out what to bring. (4 tops, 2 shorts, and 2 pairs of sandals are getting me through 7 days…not sure if I am crazy or awesome.)

  2. Love the look! I still think I would melt wearing a button blouse right now, but I can’t wait to try that look when it cools down a bit.
