Transitioning

In my opinion, there’s nothing fresher than an autumnal take on wearing white.

I feel like I say this every single season, but I’m all about a little fashion rule-breaking – donning sequins for daytime, print-mixing with wild abandon and so on — you name it. Of course, this includes wearing white after Labor Day (slash before Memorial Day.)

Honestly, white is a wardrobe staple for me year-round, but wearing it well into the fall and winter means abiding by a few tried-and-true guidelines. Opting for thicker, textured pieces, for example — and keeping fabrics that are synonymous with summer (like linen and seer-sucker) relegated to the warm-weather months.

Thankfully, there have been a few days recently that remain to be hot as hell here in New York. As a result, a handful of my summer wardrobe staples have had the chance at a few more go-arounds – like my favorite pair of shorts and this hat (which is on sale).

At the moment, there’s nothing I love more than a comfortable cotton-blend sweater. I’ve been wearing this one (and both of these) on the weekends and during all of my recent travels – they’re great for obtaining that laid-back, put-together look… And for hiding all of the sins you committed the weekend prior.

And speaking of which, the struggle is real today. In sum: My best friend’s wedding. So much late-night pizza. So much wine.

At any rate, there’s a few more Fashion Week recaps and plenty of personal style on tap for this week. I hope your weekend was a great one!

  1. I can’t seem to stop wearing white…the last three tops I’ve bought have been ivory! Trying to keep the materials more on the substantial side and definitely looking for ways to transition them into the cooler months. Thanks for the tips Hallie! Love your Rebecca Taylor top.

  2. I wore something eerily similar for a dinner date with my hubby last weekend. And as you surmised, it was perfect for hiding the bacon-wrapped jalapenos, mashed potatoes and bloody marys consumed. Now, if only there was a hiding mechanism while naked. Surely, someone somewhere is working on that. :)

  3. I LOVE black + white and am so glad all the designs are featuring it this season. Also, I’m so glad you mentioned the texture bit- so important for the rule-breaking to make sense and be successful. Beautiful!
