FAQ //LOCATION: New York, New York •BY WAY OF: The Midwest (Cleveland/Chicago) •HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE YOUR STYLE? Attainable, trendy and fun. I’m constantly wearing unexpected pairings – like statement pumps and a graphic tee. •FAVORITE ITEM IN YOUR CLOSET? The vintage Gucci clutch I thrifted for $40. •ANY OBSESSIONS? I like my coffee black, my heels high and my martinis dirty. •GUILTY PLEASURES? Complex carbohydrates and shoe shopping -- both in excess. (And SoulCycle, as a result.)
ARE YOU A FULL-TIME BLOGGER? No, I work as a Development Manager and Contributing Editor at Glam.com. •WHY DID YOU START YOUR BLOG? I've spent nearly seven years on the corporate grind, where sartorial humor and an expertly crafted color-block can get lost in the boardroom. As a result, I decided to create a blog -- a space where I’d hoped my writing, styling and excessive shoe collection would be better comprehended. •WHAT’S IT ABOUT? Living stylish and spontaneously in New York City – and beyond. I aim to inspire others to have fun with fashion and to live lightheartedly •HOW’D YOU THINK OF THE NAME? To be honest, the name just came to me. I’m a big color-blocker and a sucker for alliteration in writing. It just fit. •WHAT’S THE CORRECT WAY TO WRITE IT? corals + cognacs.
HOW DO YOU PRONOUNCE IT? corals and cone-yaks. •WHAT KIND OF CAMERA DO YOU USE? A Canon T3i with a 50mm f/1.4 lens. •DON’T YOU FEEL WEIRD TAKING PHOTOS OF YOURSELF? Absolutely. Everyone looks at me like I’m insane – especially when it’s cold. Wouldn’t you? •DO YOU WORK WITH ADVERTISERS/SPONSORS? Yep! Shoot me an e-mail and let’s talk. •HOW ELSE CAN WE KEEP IN TOUCH? On Twitter, Facebook and Instagram.
Earlier today, I had one of those mornings when I killed at least 20 minutes staring at my closet thinking: “This is one of those days when I just wish I had a personal stylist.”
Someone to make the decisions for you, you know?
If you’re nodding, today’s post is for you. (And, really, if you like shopping at all, you’ll want to read this.)
About a week ago, I was introduced to Golden Tote — an online boutique that’s part shopping, part surprise. More specifically, it’s a service that sends you up to seven items of clothing based on your personal style and specific interests. It’s kind of like a stylist-in-a-bag.
Here’s how it works:
You sign up online, answer a few questions that describe your style and pick one of these options:
Then, you pick 1-2 inspiration pieces (based on your budget and preferences) and the Golden Tote team will send you a personalized tote bag. As shown above, you can choose to receive up to three items in your tote for $49 (up to a $200 value) or up to seven items for $149 (up to $600 value).
Golden Tote asked me if I’d like to try out their service, and since it seemed like a great value proposition, I happily obliged.
I signed up, picked my size (Medium) and chose two items — today’s striped vest and a pretty patterned jacket, shown below. I took five minutes to type in my personal style preferences — including things I’d never wear and colors I don’t like. I hit submit and resorted to stalking my mailman.
My items arrived within 72 hours, and overall, I was really happy with the contents. I’ve been wearing four out of the five items sent in my bag on the reg, all of which are pictured below. The piece I didn’t love is that pretty dress on the left — it’s super-cute, but didn’t fit me right.
Here’s a bit more of my thoughts on the service:
Pro: That vest! I’m obsessed. I’ve been styling it a variety of ways (more photos to share with you tomorrow), but mainly with my favorite straight-leg skinny jeans and black-and-white booties.
Pro: You can pick your preference — $49 (2-3 items) or $149 (6-7 items). It’s kind of like a grown-up version of Puppy Surprise. Isn’t it? (TELL ME you remember Puppy Surprise.)
Pro: It’s not one of those automatically-deducts-from-your-credit-card gigs. You can sign up once or manually every month, when a new collection of pieces are debuted.
Pro: It’s not a ‘hit or miss’ situation, as you’ll for sure get 1-2 items you love and select yourself.
Good-to-know: My vest had all sizes left, luckily, but some items sell out quickly. Act fast!
Con: If you don’t like one or two things in your bag, you can’t return them or send them back; however, Golden Tote does have a Facebook group where members can trade and exchange their items. I love this idea!

Intrigued? Questions? Let me know in the comments below. You can also click over to Golden Tote’s website to learn more or to sign up for your own Tote.
It’s $49 for up to three items — $149 for up to seven. You can select 1-2 items and then they’ll curate the rest based on your personal style/specified interests.
You have to keep everything in your tote, since it’s a bundled package. If you don’t like something, though, they have a Facebook community where members trade and exchange items.
Hope that makes sense. Feel free to email me if you have any more questions!
I love this!! I’ve seen other sites like this but they’re very expensive. I can’t wait to purchase this as a birthday treat for myself without feeling the guilt!
LOOOOOVE this vest and shoe combo! Way to mix them prints!

And this Golden Tote thing sounds like everything I could ever need right now!
Love those Tory Burch sunglasses!
So it’s $49 for everything or is it like StitchFix where you pay for the items you keep?

This is cool! Totally more me than the others I’ve seen!
Thanks!
You’re very welcome! Hope all is well (and warm’ish) in Chicago. x
You always find such great companies! I love the idea of Golden Tote, I’ll definitely need to try.

This is cool! One question…are the garments their own brand, or are they various [known] brands?
