All insanely great ideas!
It looks like we ended up with about 14 inches or so…yep, pretty much just a normal winter in the midwest, ha!
Dude, I’m from Texas and I laughed in this snowstorm’s face. I bundled up to shovel my steps last night and ended up taking a walk around the neighborhood instead because it was so pleasant out!
We haven’t gotten like any snow in Cincinnati this year, and I love it! Good thing you have your Midwest roots to help you tackle the weather up there. Stay warm!
Stay warm and be safe! We have a high of 77 today in San Antonio!

Great list! I love being in the city and not having to worry about losing power since at home outside Boston it is almost guaranteed my family will lose power. That’s when those external batteries and books become your lifesavers. Stay warm and safe today!

You forgot a cross - I live in Minnesota, so each winter I self-medicate with wine (the blood of Christ) and pray to God it’s over quickly!
Lol, amen sister!
Booze is always at the top of my list! And love that Google Offline tip!

As i’m sitting here in my cozy little nook on the upper east side and the street is filled with snow this survival kit came it perfectly! Loved it, Hallie!

HAHA! I live in Madison, Wisconsin and totally feel your “isn’t this just called January?” mentality. Still, great list! My parents had a collection of oil lamps growing up (weird, I know.) BUT they were infinitely useful when the power went out, and I always think of them when I’m snowed-in. Stay warm!
Really helpful list! Hope you’re staying warm!

Love this list! There is nothing more I love than a good snow day in the winter, especially since I’m in the DC area & snow days are a little less intense
Hope you’re enjoying the snow day - keep warm and relaxed!

Thanks for the Gmail Offline tip! I’ll have to add that to my pre-flight ritual for flights without wi-fi!
Love your blog! You should totally check out any of Colleen Hoover’s books - they’re light and total page turners. Ugly Love and Maybe Someday are my favorites! Of course, anything by Gillian Flynn is great too.
Yay! I’ve read Gone Girl but I think I need to check out a few of Gillian’s other books… Thanks, Mary Kate!
HAH! I feel ya there. This WI-native was laughing from the couch on my “snow day”. PLEEEEEEEASE. I remember going into the office in Milwaukee once after 3 feet of snow. #amateurhour. But I’ll take the excuse to work from home (aka online shop) today! Thanks for sharing your essentials
xoxo, Elena Michelle

Me too, girl. That freelance life!
I got so excited about the gmail offline! But then I had trouble enabling it for my custom domain in my google admin console. Do you happen to have any tips?
I’m not sure! I’m able to use it for mine — you have your @domain set up in a gmail account, right? Your hosting/server might be able to help…
Yeah, my domain is set up in gmail and I found the instructions to allow offline use. But it directly you to “email settings” in the admin console - which is no where to be found. HAHA. Oh well. I’ll just read my kindle on the plane. Stay warm!
Hah! I’m from Michigan, so I totally agree. Six inches is nothing! Such good picks for a snow day.

Having lived in Florida for the past 20 years, I’m freezing my buns off in PA where we moved in August
As for a reading list, here goes: Orphan Train, Me Before You, Thirteen Reasons Why, The Kitchen House, The Art of Racing in The Rain, Language of Flowers, The Shoemaker’s Wife, Snowflower and the Secret Fan, Peony in Love, Shanghai Girls, The Girl on the Train, What Alice Forgot,
I am super jealous of all of your snow! I wish we could have a blizzard so I could be snowed in. For us, an inch is like a blizzard! Great list!

The first place I go when I hear we MIGHT get a snowstorm is the wine store. 😉 Hope you survived ok! We have barely had any snow so far this winter in chicago…watch it come in April or May.
