Hi, nice to meet you.
I'm Hallie, a Midwest native, New York City transplant and the mind behind corals + cognacs. If you're looking for an online destination for stylish inspiration and musings on Manhattan living, you've come to the right place.
Here's a bit more about me (and if you'd like to keep in touch, you can find me on Instagram, Twitter and Facebook).
I hope you enjoy reading corals + cognacs as much as I enjoy writing it.
FAQ //LOCATION: New York, New York •BY WAY OF: The Midwest (Cleveland/Chicago) •HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE YOUR STYLE? Attainable, trendy and fun. I’m constantly wearing unexpected pairings – like statement pumps and a graphic tee. •FAVORITE ITEM IN YOUR CLOSET? The vintage Gucci clutch I thrifted for $40. •ANY OBSESSIONS? I like my coffee black, my heels high and my martinis dirty. •GUILTY PLEASURES? Complex carbohydrates and shoe shopping -- both in excess. (And SoulCycle, as a result.)
ARE YOU A FULL-TIME BLOGGER? No, I work as a Development Manager and Contributing Editor at Glam.com. •WHY DID YOU START YOUR BLOG? I've spent nearly seven years on the corporate grind, where sartorial humor and an expertly crafted color-block can get lost in the boardroom. As a result, I decided to create a blog -- a space where I’d hoped my writing, styling and excessive shoe collection would be better comprehended. •WHAT’S IT ABOUT? Living stylish and spontaneously in New York City – and beyond. I aim to inspire others to have fun with fashion and to live lightheartedly •HOW’D YOU THINK OF THE NAME? To be honest, the name just came to me. I’m a big color-blocker and a sucker for alliteration in writing. It just fit. •WHAT’S THE CORRECT WAY TO WRITE IT? corals + cognacs.
HOW DO YOU PRONOUNCE IT? corals and cone-yaks. •WHAT KIND OF CAMERA DO YOU USE? A Canon T3i with a 50mm f/1.4 lens. •DON’T YOU FEEL WEIRD TAKING PHOTOS OF YOURSELF? Absolutely. Everyone looks at me like I’m insane – especially when it’s cold. Wouldn’t you? •DO YOU WORK WITH ADVERTISERS/SPONSORS? Yep! Shoot me an e-mail and let’s talk. •HOW ELSE CAN WE KEEP IN TOUCH? On Twitter, Facebook and Instagram.
Hello from Paradise Island in the Bahamas, my friends!
I kind of flew under the radar with my recent travel, but to be honest, I’ve been so focused on everything that this trip totally snuck up on me, too. I’ll share photos and updates with you soon, but you can follow along on Instagram in the interim.
For today, though…
I’m checking in to share a few photos from a really fun project I did last week with Shoptiques, an online shopping site that’s basically a curated selection of hard-to-find fashion from the world’s best boutiques.
(Read on to learn more about the site/see more photos, but first: The best part of our shoot last week? This impromptu puppy photobomb. I died!)
Have you heard of Shoptiques? I hadn’t, admittedly, until I started to learn more about the site over the past few weeks.
It’s a brilliant idea, really – and I’ll give you the cliff notes version: Shoptiques.com is a website that allows you to “filter through the clutter” of the fashion world and get immediate access to local boutiques across the globe (in cities like New York, San Francisco, Chicago, Paris and more).
It’s a great concept for girls who live in non-metropolitan cities, are time-starved, or just want to discover new brands and boutiques.
I also curated a selection of my favorite spring dresses, skirts and other separates, which you can find here.
My favorite thing about Shoptiques is that they list what boutique your item is actually coming from – including a few of my favorites: Pinkyotto and Bash & Bow in New York; and Mulberry & Me in Chicago.
Before buying, you can read up on neighborhood details, specific boutique reviews and even facts about the owners, so you really get the whole “shop local” vibe. Cool, right?
Lastly, Shoptiques just launched their mobile app, which makes shopping the site and saving your favorites that much easier. You can download it here (or if you prefer desktop, you can shop the site here).
I have a few more looks to share with you from our photoshoot, and you can expect those next week. Stay tuned!
I love the graphic print blouse and the floral print blouse. Both are vibrant and fun for spring. Those pups were in love with you Hallie, or maybe they’re in love with what’s in the pink box Happy Thursday!
Wow! Your travel is amazing and so inspiring! I hadn’t heard of Shoptiques either, but it seems like I’m missing out! Have a great day, Hallie!

I haven’t heard of Shoptiques either! Looks so cool! And that last look…..so so good! Very cool shoot, Hallie. Glad to see you’re having fun (and a well-deserved) vacation!
Gorgeous pictures! You look amazing and those outfits are too cute! I have never hear of shoptiques until today, so I can’t wait to try it out! Thanks for sharing

Hallie- You look amazing in that graphic shirt/green trench look! It suits you so well!
I’ve never used Shoptiques, but may have to give it a shot. One of my biggest complaints about the CLE retail market is the lack of great boutique shopping. I’ve been slowly introducing my styling clients to my favorite shops around the US, but this makes it so much easier!
Okay, I just went to this site and immediately put about 10 things in my bag! I’ve also been looking for some affordable boutiques in New York; thanks for sharing!

Obsessed with all of these looks! And from someone who is familiar with ShopTiques, I love that you collaborated with them!!

You lost me at curated…I mean honestly between you and all the others with the same post, I think each one of you used the word curated. UGH!
