Link Love, Vol. 41

Happy Friday!

Keeping it short and sweet today as I’m still on vacation with my family. I’ll have stories and snaps to share with you next week, but in the interim, you can follow along on Instagram.

And before we get into it, a quick plug — if I may:

Better Homes & Gardens nominated me (among some amazingly talented ladies) for the Best Fashion Blog of 2015. If you’d like, you can vote here — as well as see the other nominees and categories. (Your support, as always, is very much appreciated!)

Peaks & Pits, March 20

  • Peak: I’m in the Bahamas. With my family. And it’s 80 degrees! Here’s hoping that next week’s “peak” is all about my success on the roulette table.
  • Pit: Let’s just say, I tend to sunburn easily. Ouch!

Onto this week’s links and such:

  1. Last year, for my birthday, I got a Jawbone Up24. It was sunshine and puppy dogs until - three months after I bought it, it crashed. At the time, I thought nothing of it and just had it replaced via the warranty. Unfortunately, this became a cycle; I found myself having to get it replaced every three months (under warranty, but still….).

I finally got fed up and got myself a Fitbit Charge after a year of messing with the Jawbone. I was tempted to get the ChargeHR, but the reviews I read were saying that the heart rate part of the band wasn’t as accurate as wearing a chest strap heart rate monitor. Since I didn’t see sense in paying the extra $$$ for the heart rate monitoring, I got the Charge. I haven’t looked back.

The other upside to the Fitbit Charge is that since it has a display, you don’t have to constantly check your phone for your progress. My husband loves that he can get his phone caller ID on his band as well.
The only downside is that the battery life on the Fitbit is 5-7 days, and the Jawbone was able to go about 2 weeks. Frankly, I’d rather charge my band every 5-7 days than be waiting a week to have a non-responsive band replaced every three months.

  2. Voted! Congrats on being in such wonderful company. Also - enjoy the Bahamas! You left at the perfect time (snow storm coming!)

  3. Not to be a downer here but neither the fitbit or the jawbone will account for all the cycling you do…consider a misfit shine. And if you job is going to be a soul cycle instructor I am not sure it really worth getting something like this, you should consider something more like a polar.

    • Appreciate your feedback! I don’t necessarily want it to track my heart rate/calories/”steps” taken through cycling, moreso just for consistent lifestyle habits and whatnot. Polar is a great suggestion, though; thanks! I’m a total sucker for fitness trackers like this.

  4. I agree with iReply…the Fitbit won’t register your spinning - FYI. There is no option to add that sort of exercise into the app. The Jawbone did allow for ad hoc exercise to be entered into the app (in different forms of exercise, too - spinning, swimming, etc.). That was an excellent point to make by iReply (??).

  5. I got a Jawbone Up24 for me, my mom, and my grandma - literally anyone can use it (regardless of his/her iPhone skills) and we love cheering each other on! Plus it stays on best and looks more like jewelry and less like a fitness tracker. Huge fan.

What do you think?
