A Laid-Back Look in Dark-Wash Denim

Oh, man. (…Drake voice: “Oh man, oh man.”)

Monday, guys… Ready or not.

This weekend was great — but between lots (and I mean LOTS) of eating, a rowdy “Friendsgiving” and teaching Soul to a group of 20+ frat boys, I’m beat.

And when that happens, ain’t nobody got time to stress over what they’re wearing day-in and day-out, you know what I mean?

Last week, I styled these jeans how I would (and did) wear them for a night out — and unsurprisingly, they’ve been my go-to for just about any other day of the week/event on the calendar as well.

Lately, I’ve been opting for more of a low-key look to fit my lifestyle (always on the go, balancing blog things, teaching at SoulCycle every day). A process that has been wonderfully simplified by the fact that I’ve curated a fairly strong mix-and-match wardrobe over the last year. I’m all about building a core wardrobe of elevated basics — wide-leg jeans, a cozy black knit, striped shirts, and a cognac-colored suede moto jacket, just to name a few…

Lately, though, it’s like the food rut. But not in a bad way. Do you ever have one of those? Where, like, you get stuck eating the same shit every day? I do this all the time — and it’s been the same on the style front. (I mean, those white jeans. Can’t stop, won’t stop!)

On weekdays especially, I’ve zeroed in on rotating a handful of wear-anywhere essentials. Today’s ensemble boasts a few of my best seasonal basics: dark-wash denim, a puffy vest, fresh grey kicks and a neutral sweater that works with anything. (Though if dark-wash jeans aren’t your jam, Zappos has a lot of different colors, styles and fits in the denim department.)

I’m normally a clutch kinda gal, too, but Monday calls for big, roomy tote (or backpack, in today’s case). Makes life so much easier, no?

The trick to dressing casually with style is to keep it from looking sloppy. This white vest, for example: I love it because it’s clean-looking — and surprisingly, super warm — without being bulky or feeling heavy.

Speaking of heavy, that’s how I’d describe my eyelids at the moment… More coffee, coffee, coffee.

But first: How was your weekend?

  3. Hi there,

Just trying to track down your Nike Air Max Tea running shoes. Your link brings me to the Zappos website but not sure if its the same shoes you are wearing. What is the exact colour of your Nike’s? To me in the picture they look light blue ish…..I would really like to purchase them. By the way love your outfit & style.

Hope to hear from you soon!
