Plaid Poncho

So, I went to Target last night… To return something. That’s it. To RETURN something!

And naturally, I walked out one hour and approximately $262 later. I’m really not sure how it happened.

That’s not what today’s post is about, though… I just thought you could relate. The struggle!

At any rate, my winter essentials have been decidedly of-the-moment this year: Namely — and regularly — it’s been a cozy cape and over-the-knee boots.

While I love a goose-down puffy jacket, I love to avoid actual outerwear whenever possible.

I’m a cape girl through-and-through (remember this one from last season? I still wear it regularly), and this one is surprisingly warm — especially when layered over a thicker turtleneck. Such streamlined sensibility!

Quick note: My cape is by The Kooples, but it’s sold out — here’s a nearly identical version in olive green. Madewell has an amazing buffalo check version that’s on sale. This black-and-white version from Alice + Olivia is a bit pricier, but it’s gorgeous as well.

I wear the sweater-and-cape combo ensemble regularly, whether it’s when I’m working at home or venturing out for a meeting. The turtleneck, too, now that I think about it — I love how it’s a nautical take on a cooler-weather essential… A staple of a different stripe.

How’s your week going?

Despite the fact that we’re (more than) mid-way to the weekend, I feel like I’ve still got a lot of loose ends to wrap up. That time period between Thanksgiving and New Year’s Eve just runs away from you, doesn’t it? I mean, Christmas Eve is two weeks from today — TWO WEEKS!

On the tail of my trip to Caneel Bay in the Virgin Islands (I’m almost done with my first recap!), I’ve got a jam-packed SoulCycle schedule this week — meaning I’ve been subbing a lot in addition to my regular schedule.

… And on that note — I need a nap. Or more coffee!
