Bold and Bright

You know I love the look of all black err’thang, but spring’s imminent arrival has been a welcome opportunity to pump the color back into my wardrobe.

Do you fall into the same sartorial habit?

To-date, most of my spring ensembles have been all about candy-colored pastels, bright whites and sorbet-infused pieces — like yesterday’s post — one of my favorite looks to-date.

Lately, though, I’ll have a morning where I gravitate toward a variety of bolder, brighter hues — like royal blue, ruby red and iced coffee-colored caramel, to name a few.

If there’s one thing I love about color, it’s that it can have a direct impact on your mood.

… Seriously. That shit is backed by science!

Consider the way that we use color to describe feelings or emotions: Mellow yellow, green with envy, feeling blue, etc. You know?

Or consider how you feel instantly chic’er when you slip into your favorite fitted black dress? (Or for me — in the case of today’s post — a killer pair of pumps.)

There’s no denying that color and mood are linked…

… Bold, bright hues just make you a bit happier, no?

At any rate:

What I love about this spring’s bold color trends in particular is the fact that they’re practically season-less — from reds to blues and even that pretty, peachy burnt apricot hue. You could totally wear this outfit come fall and get away with it (with a scarf or sweater layered atop that striped shirt, perhaps).

It can be a bit tricky to transition your wardrobe from winter to spring — a process that tends to be very drawn out here in the Midwest.

In an effort to jump the gun on my warmer weather wardrobe game, I hit up Zappos as a one-stop shop for a new bag* and cute pair of spring shoes — and I finally settled on two that went well together but would also tie many other pieces together in my closer seamlessly.

(*The ‘Sofia’ clutch shown here is sold out, but there are still a lot of cute clutch options — the tassel style also comes in a cute cross-body and a functional backpack style.)

I can’t wait to wear this striped boyfriend-style button-up with distressed white jean shorts this summer, too.

Now, here’s hoping I won’t need this lightweight jacket (albeit a cute one) much longer…

How’s your week going?
