Five Things You Need to Know About This Nordstrom Sale

Seems counter-intuitive to switch the conversation to fall so early in the summer, but there’s some sh*t happening you need to know about.

Maybe you’ve heard, but early access to the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale kicks off today — which means you can shop the sale early if you have (or open) a Nordstrom card.

You’ve likely heard a lot of chatter about it leading up to the sale’s launch, so I thought I’d share some of the most frequently asked questions I’ve been getting about it — as well as my plan-of-attack/the things I plan to purchase.

1. Why is this sale so popular?

Because for a limited time, Nordstrom’s offering brand new fall clothing, shoes and accessories (for women, men and kids) at insanely discounted prices.

2. What’s included?

… We’re talkin’ brands that virtually never go on sale, like Tory Burch, 3.1 Phillip Lim, JBRAND, Rebecca Minkoff and more.

3. When is it?

It’s right now — for cardholders. The sale open July 22 to the public. If you don’t already have a card, you can sign up for a one here — it takes a few days, but you’ll still beat the rush if you order one sooner rather than later, I believe. Early-birds have eight full days to shop the sale before anyone else. (!)

4. What are the most popular things to buy?

The most popular items in the past (that tend to sell out before the sale opens to the public) have been Tory Burch handbags, classic-colored coats for fall, Hunter rain boots, designer sunglasses, rag & bone booties, Chloe handbags. Specifically, too, these gorgeous leather riding boots… I think four of my girlfriends each got a pair last season.

Beauty-wise, this is a great opportunity to stock up on value sets from the likes of MAC Cosmetics and Bobbi Brown, two brands that lit-er-ally never go on sale.

5. Why shop it now?

The good stuff goes fast, so it’s always best to devise a plan before you hit the store (or shop the website). So whether you’re shopping now, later, online or in-stores, this will make it easier to categorize what you’re looking for.

I also like to make a list of the items I know I need to re-stock or re-fresh my fall wardrobe, so here’s my Anniversary Sale plan-of-attack:

What are you shopping for this year?
I created a page on the site where I’ll keep notable finds from the Anniversary Sale (bookmark it here and check back often, I’ll be updating it through the next two weeks!), but here are some specific items I’m looking for this season:

What’d you buy last year?

Um, OMG. So much. Admittedly. All good investments that I still wear, though!

Last year, I bought…

  • Over-the-knee boots from Steve Madden. These are so comfortable I bought them in black and grey.

  • The most comfortable long sleeve tee — ever. I have it in white and am getting it in grey this year (size down, it runs large).
  • A black pair of Hunter rain boots (and I’ve been surprised how much I wear them — gotta love the Midwest).
  • A pair of black aviator Ray-Ban sunglasses.
  • rag & bone booties that I’d been eyeing forever — I could never find them in my size, so I bit the bullet and gladly haven’t regretted it. They’re surprisingly walkable!
  • A double-breasted wool vest (pictured below). It’s beautiful and the most amazing layering piece — do I need the navy one, I wonder?

  1. Already bought, as you mentioned, SO MUCH. The closest brick and mortar is three hours away, so I’m definitely thankful for the opportunity to try things with no risk. 🙂

  2. Nordstrom just came to Canada - I’m in Vancouver - so I had no idea about this! I’m wondering if it happens here to… maybe I’ll be ahead of the game with your post! 😉

What do you think?
