Miami Swim Week-inspired Style

Miami Swim Week kicked off over the weekend, reminding me how badly I need to somehow secure a (man with a) beach-side Hamptons house to escape the wrath of this city’s humidity. Although, this weekend sure was a fun one.

It was hard not to follow the coverage — so many colorful, fun full-pieces, strapless bandeaus and bikinis that featured hints of neon, palm tree patterns and plenty of prints. Models were fresh-faced with bright, dramatic eye make-up, resulting in some seriously sultry stares. It seems conservative-yet-sexy and surfer chic styles are the look du jour for the season ahead.

What to Wear: Heat Wave

Two words: Heat. Wave.

As I’m sure every other New York-based blog that you read has told you or tweeted, the humidity in our concrete jungle has been brutal this summer. As a result, you’ll find me wearing little as possible on the weekends. Tastefully, of course.

I’ve been borderline living in my crochet monokini from BCBG. It’s cute, versatile, and it hides a multitude of recurring brunch sins. (Who can say no to biscuits, gravy and Bloody Mary’s?) Better yet, with the right styling, it’s two looks in one!

This post was originally published in my monthly column for Glam.com, so click over for more on how to style (and shop) this chic alternative to the oh-so-standard triangle two-piece.

Happy weekend!

Behind the Scenes: Bloggers’ Night In

A few weeks back, I ventured to Atlantic Beach with Devon, Mel, Natalie and Ali to film a fun video segment for Sauza Tequila (on behalf of Glam.com). I’ll share the video with you as soon as it’s ready, but here’s a few behind-the scenes sneaks in the meantime:

The location we set up shop at is gorgeous. When we arrived bright-and-early — venti’s in-hand — we were greeted by a number of people already busy talking into their phones, shucking corn, setting up expensive-looking equipment and arranging pretty floral centerpieces. Kinda felt like I walked on to a direct replica of one of my Pinterest boards.

I practically had to be dragged upstairs and away from the aroma of fresh grilled meats and veggies. The ladies and I spent much of the morning in hair and make-up — it takes an army, you guys.

If you’re curious, the people you see in these photos include our director, his assistants, the camera, sound and mic crews; the Glam team; hair and make-up warriors; prop and food stylists. Like I said, it takes an army. Most of the food you see wasn’t for us to eat (torture!), but we were able to dabble in the beverage department.

It was a looong day of shooting (around 15 hours, to be exact), which may have ended in my doing THIS. Regardless, it was another one of those “pinch me” days, and I’m glad I had the opportunity to spend it sipping on Sauza with these great girls.

When in Rome, you know? Check back soon for video content!

What to Wear: A Low-Key Weekend

Okay, is anyone else addicted to the TV show Nashville? I’m a newly-minted fanatic (thanks in part to Netflix and the amount of rain we’ve seen this summer), which may be starting to translate oh-so-slightly into my style.

Having had a wild weekend in Chicago, I’m looking forward to a few low-key non-work days at home in New York City. Of course, it’s too humid for anything more than a cotton tee and jean shorts, so my temporarily Tennessean-infused style is limited to the area south of my ankles — for now.
