What I’m Wearing: Winter Weather Maxi Skirts

I’ve been wearing the heck out of this skirt since I snagged it for $20, and ever since I realized I could pull off the maxi trend despite my height - or lack-thereof - I’ve been reluctant to ban this floor-sweeping frock to the back of my closet just because it’s winter.

During cooler temps, I like to balance out the volume of this skirt with even more volume. Whoever said you need to wear something tight on top if you’ve got a lotta skirt going on?

Heavier skirts with deeper hues are considered more seasonably appropriate, but as you know, I love my winter whites — especially when they’re paired with cropped jackets and fail-proof color-blocking combos.

One tip: If you’re wearing your maxis this winter, just be careful they don’t graze the ground. Soggy, snow-covered clothing is never trendy or fun to wear!

What I’m Wearing: Romwe skirt, H&M blazer, Tory Burch bag, cashmere scarf, Steve Madden pumps (on sale!)

Next month, I’m going to style this piece with boots and colored tights. How would (or will) you wear it?

What I’m Wearing: Autumn Chiffon

Okay, I guess I’m ready to admit it… Summer is long-gone and it’s getting cold in Chicago, which I feared meant that all of my cute, frilly party frocks were destined to be banished to the back of my closet until spring.

Thankfully, the first week of November threw us a bone in the form 50-degrees-and-sunny, to which I took full advantage of in floating chiffon and peep-toe pumps.

Chiffon doesn’t exactly scream November, but there are ways to make your pretty summer pieces more cold-weather appropriate. Take these lessons in layering, for example:

  • Wearing a long-sleeve black top under your spring and summer frocks is a simple way to take them through fall and into winter.
  • Keep from looking bulky (and like you’re homeless wearing everything you own) by sticking to basic add-ons, like a neutral-colored chunky knit.
  • Lastly, the ultimate easy transformation: Opaque black tights and boots have the power to turn any outfit into a cozy autumn (and beyond) ensemble. That’s how I’ll be dressing, now that those pretty leaves no longer linger on their branches!

Photo Recap: Gilt City Chicago Warehouse Sale

This past weekend, a few friends and I set our alarm clocks on a Saturday to raid the Museum of Contemporary Art Warehouse for Gilt City Chicago’s second annual sample sale.
Though a few of us (myself included) left empty-handed, it wasn’t unhappily: In addition to shopping, great music and drinks, 19,000 square feet of exposed brick and architectural details made for an all-around worthwhile event.
Wearing: Topshop Jacket / Romwe Skirt (similar) / Tory Burch Wedges (similar)
Sample sale shopping makes my soles tired.
If you’re planning to attend a Gilt City warehouse sale in the future, don’t worry if the early time slots sell out (tickets are available in two-hour increments from 10 a.m. – 6 p.m.) The stylishly-clad Gilt City staff efficiently stocks the floor after each group.
Until next time, I’ll be getting my sample sale fix online at 11 a.m. CST everyday. How ’bout you?

What I’m Wearing: Python Prints

From slinky skirts to trendy footwear and statement separates, this fall season seems to be one of sleek-and-subtly textured, patterned python prints.

Skirt, Romwe / Tank, H&M / Shoes c/o Nine West / Nail color, Essie Smokin’ Hot / Watch, Michael Kors
How do you incorporate this trend into your outfit? If you’re hesitant on ways to wear it, here are my three favorite ssstyle commandmentssss…
  • Accessorize! A printed clutch is an easy go-to statement piece.
  • Don’t overdo it. Less is more when styling this trend.
  • Choose one item in python print. Pumps that pop instantly transform your style. These Nine West shoes are surprisingly easy to walk in because of their thicker heel. Prepare to turn some heads, ladies!
