What I’m Wearing: Winter Weather Maxi Skirts

I’ve been wearing the heck out of this skirt since I snagged it for $20, and ever since I realized I could pull off the maxi trend despite my height - or lack-thereof - I’ve been reluctant to ban this floor-sweeping frock to the back of my closet just because it’s winter.

During cooler temps, I like to balance out the volume of this skirt with even more volume. Whoever said you need to wear something tight on top if you’ve got a lotta skirt going on?

Heavier skirts with deeper hues are considered more seasonably appropriate, but as you know, I love my winter whites — especially when they’re paired with cropped jackets and fail-proof color-blocking combos.

One tip: If you’re wearing your maxis this winter, just be careful they don’t graze the ground. Soggy, snow-covered clothing is never trendy or fun to wear!

What I’m Wearing: Romwe skirt, H&M blazer, Tory Burch bag, cashmere scarf, Steve Madden pumps (on sale!)

Next month, I’m going to style this piece with boots and colored tights. How would (or will) you wear it?

Off-the-Set Style: Blake Lively

Even though we must endure five long weeks without Gossip Girl, that doesn’t mean we have to halt our weekly fashion digests, does it? Until our favorite Upper East Siders return to our TV sets on January 16, get your GG fix with me in reviewing our favorite stars’ ensembles — both behind the scenes and off the set.

Let’s start by style-stalking the lovely Serena, i.e. Blake Lively:

Blake is wearing Theoroda and Callum wedges, Victoria Beckham zip jeans and a quilted Chanel bag.
Get her look for less with a wide-brimmed hat from Forever 21, H&M leather trousers and ASOS wedges (they’re on sale!).

Cozy up in these shearling boots from Ugg Australia (bottom), as seen on Blake between takes on the Gossip Girl set. That top pair is from Madewell, I need ‘em!
Leaving a Barnes & Noble in NYC, just another stylish Sunday! … in a leather Burberry coat, Opening Ceremony dress, Louboutin pumps and a D&G bag. Get her look for less with a J. Crew trench, cashmere Burberry scarf, Aldo shoes and a KDNY bag.
Spotted: Blake smiling on the set… in a sequined Gryphon sweater, Mike & Chris jacket and J. Brand coated leggings.
Get her look for less with a Warehouse top, Topshop skinnies, Blowfish boots, a Modcloth moto jacket and a Tory Burch shoulder bag.

What I’m (Still) Wearing: Sheer Maxis

Sheer skirts and see-through maxis had a major moment this season.

I found this dress on sale for $10 at Urban Outfitters last week, and I couldn’t image tucking it into the back of my closet until next spring! Fortunately, with a few simple styling tricks, these floor-sweeping frocks are here to stay as we head through fall into winter.

Wearing: Urban Outfitters dress, Forever21 blazer, Tory Burch Reva flats, Ray-Ban aviators
So as long as rain isn’t threatening from the sky and snow isn’t coating the ground, the maxi has gone (nearly) seasonless in my book. The key to styling these longer-in-length dresses during cooler temperatures is to counter-act the dramatic impact with a less feminine accent… and a warm one, at that!
If you’re up for trying this trend, here are two (more) of my favorite style ideas: You can’t go wrong with slouchy boots and a knitted caridgan, or black booties and a leather aviator jacket.
