Event Recap: Gilt City Warehouse Sale

Although I spent the majority of last night glued to my TV screen (watching Sandy coverage and — when it became appropriate - Gossip Girl), I did spend some time recapping yet another successful trip to the annual Gilt City Warehouse Sale. Here’s a few highlights, including my new favorite “friend.”

… Yep, friend. A taupe Foley + Corinna Mid City tote.

Incidentally, I found her cast aside against the wall in an abandoned shoe box, which brings me to my main advice for sample sale shopping: Keep an open-mind. Finding that must-have item can seem impossible at a sample sale, and you’re much more likely to score a deal if you’re open-minded when browsing.

It’s Monday! Another night on the Upper East Side…

Before we get into our weekly dose of Gossip Girl Fashion, I thought I’d take a sec to let all of you on the actual Upper East Side (and the surrounding areas of New York, Jersey and D.C.) that I’m thinking of you. I hope you’re amply stocked up on magazines, wine and nail polish. And, you know, water and soup and whatnot. But seriously, stay safe!

The name of the game is fresh starts on the Upper East Side tonight!

Here’s what’s in store for us: Serena hosts the Central Park Conservancy’s gala (of which she’s the newest Board Member, naturally) in an attempt to prove herself in high society. She and Nate learn something shocking about their beaus, while Blair preps to debut her fashion line, Dan makes some decisions on whether or not to publish his new book, and Chuck tries to persuade Amira to help him look into his father’s past.

Oh, and I won’t even get started on Ivy. WTF?

Spotted: Mixed Prints

Equipment blouses are a casual fashion favorite of mine; however, I can’t justify dropping $200 on a blouse (especially given my Zara and obsessive shoe shopping addiction), so I was thrilled when I found this ink-print piece at a consignment shop in East Village during a recent trip to New York.

I wore this a few Saturdays ago for a low-key night of college football and drinks al fresco. It was borderline, side-eye “what-the-hell-isn’t-she-freezing” weather, but I’m not quite ready to retire my shorts. I threw on my beer sweater that evening, instead, if you know what I mean… It was college football, after all.

Tossing these contemporary Ann Taylor haircalf booties into the mix makes this blouse feel a bit more my style — unexpected and slightly less preppy.

When fall weather hits, I find myself wearing bolder looks in a variety of prints, plaids, and textures. Pattern-mixing comes in at a close second to layering, in my book.In fact, I actually threw it on as soon as I walked out of the store a few weeks ago! Hashtag best of both worlds.

**Okay, I’m jet-setting to a friend’s wedding for the weekend. I hope you enjoy yours! See you on Monday for more Gossip Girl fashion.
