Faux Sho

Chicago is having a major identity crisis. On Tuesday, it was 61 degrees. Yesterday, it rained and then snowed.

I have a feeling that flu virus is ready to make its rounds again; but more importantly, how the hell’s a girl supposed to get dressed in the morning?

Versatile Threads

Merry Christmas Eve Eve! If you’ve been traveling this week, I hope you’ve done so safely. As predicted, my flights thus far were delayed; but no complaints. Could be worse, right?

Our second video from last month’s Macy’s shoot in New York is finished and ready to rock, ladies! To view, mouse over the video + turn the volume up.

For this series, I’m rocking a long-sleeve, snakeskin dress from INC at Macy’s. In the video, I show you how to take it from day-to-night. Which look do you like better?

Here’s a few photos from behind-the-scenes and on the set. I had such an amazing time in New York with these ladies (+ gent). Miss you already, Ashley, Channing, Tammy, Bianca and Robert!

Feeling Festive: Macy’s Gift Guide

I flew home last night and was met with six inches of snow. While the flight itself was a bit turbulent (white knuckle style), I couldn’t be happier to finally feel as though I’m getting in the holiday spirit.

You may have noticed, but I’ve spent a lot of time at Macy’s in the past few weeks. Not that I can complain, because I love wandering through the store during the holidays. It’s like a sensory overload of twinkling lights, Christmas trees and candy canes… And, of course, shoes, bags, jackets and style. Who can blame me?

Did you know the Macy’s on State in Chicago was the first-ever store to feature holiday-themed windows?

I’ve seen a lot of compelling gift guides this season (and done a quick one on statement necklaces, myself); however, it’s not every day I get to create a list my own. For my second-to-last #GlamSavvyShopper post (I’ll be posting another video episode tomorrow), I thought I’d use the latest looks I styled at Macy’s as inspiration. That said, here’s a few favorites on my list this season.

  • Embellishments: Stock up on these stand-out wardrobe pieces.

Shop embellished details: INC sparkle flats, Steve Madden Tarney booties, Rachel Roy studded blazer, Truth or Dare by Madonna studded pumps

  • Leather: The quickest way to lend your outfit a sleek-and-stylish vibe.

Shop leather: Guess motorcycle jacket, Coach mini-crossbody, Two by Vince Camuto leggings, INC blazer

  • Metallic denim: ‘nough said.

Shop metallic denim: Celebrity Pink, INC, INC, Else

  • Faux fur: Seasonal trend meets vital necessity. I’ve been living in this vest!

Shop faux fur: DKNY coat, INC vest, Juicy Couture earmuffs, Guess fur-cuff booties

Stay Glossing During… New Year’s Eve

Ah, New Year’s Eve. If you’re anything like me, you probably don’t know what you’re doing or what you’re wearing yet. (But we do know what party favor to bring to the pre-game, don’t we? Keep scrolling. #popfizzclink)

new year's dresses, dresses for new year's

I love any excuse to get dolled up and drink champagne, but New Year’s Eve in the city is, well, expensive.

Once you factor in a fresh mani, cab fare, party packages, drink specials and the like, you’d probably rather not shell out for a brand new dress that you can’t repurpose time-and-time again. Or is that just me?

This is a basic Topshop dress I picked up over the summer. I’ve taken it through the seasons by layering, but tonight (remember, we’re pretending it’s NYE), I wanted to transform my otherwise basic LBD, so I reached for this fun-and-flirty sequined blazer, and accessorized with a few pops of color: jade earrings, berry lips, orange bag.

Now, a night like this calls for lots of gloss and a sultry stare. I used my crease-resistent Glam’Eyes trio, starting with a neutral shadow on my eyelids and a darker beige in the creases for definition. Then, I used a liquid liner and applied two coats of volumizing mascara.

A berry lip is the holiday season’s makeup must-have, so on my way out the door, I layered these three shades of Stay Glossy for an ultra-sleek sheen.

On an un-related note, I’d like to point out that this is my first outfit post of the season with tights. *Sigh.* Style blogging is much more challenging in the winter — and for obvious reasons. What you don’t see here is my down-infused parka cast atop my sibling photog’s shoulders… (I got her gloves for Christmas!)
