Reasons to Get Excited about New York Fashion Week

New. York. Fashion. Week. Four little words that make my heart beat a bit faster twice a year with a familiar rush of excitement.

Though I’ll be partaking virally (alas, corporate duties call), I’ve been building up my endurance in preparation for the big week here at corals + cognacs. If you’re wondering what that entails, consider it a marathon of sleep deprivation, increased caffeine intake, and a whirlwind of fashion analysis.

Like always, I’m looking forward to seeing the expertly dressed editors occupying the front row, to watching as bloggers take to the streets as their personal runways, to the usual suspects (Proenza Schouler, Michael Kors, Marc Jacobs, Rag & Bone, DKNY); but also, to a few new players on the scene – including Chicago’s own Elise Bergman!

Over the next week on corals + cognacs, you’ll find all of New York’s runway essentials and must-try trends, combined with style tips on ways to wear them your way.

If you aren’t particularly interested in (gasp!) or you’ve never followed Fashion Week, don’t worry; these posts will still benefit you: Think of the next week as a lot of fashion photography, outfit inspiration, and detailed description of this season’s trends.

The point of these posts is to encourage you to experiment; to create outfit combinations that are equal parts chic, inspired and affordable. That’s what Fashion Week is all about, after all – it’s a celebration of creativity and trend-setting!

Man Repeller Leandra Medine said it best, that “Fashion Week is the Olympics of man-repelling and therefore the perfect excuse to turban out, drop that crotch, and elevate them shoulder pads.”
