I’ve got a new local obsession, ladies, and it’s one you need to know about.
Prior to the last Sunday’s Super Bowl festivities (read: Buffalo Chicken buffet free-for-all) I stopped into Blow by Blow salon, Chicago’s newcomer to the blow-dry bar scene. Opened last October by a mother-daughter duo, the Gold Coast salon has an an interior that rivals Kate Spade and a relaxed, modern movie-themed vibe - meaning you can enjoy popcorn and sip champagne while watching chick flicks during your service.
Confession time: Prior to Sunday, I’d never had a blow-out. And quite honestly, I’m hooked.
Here’s how it works: For just $35, you can choose from six different styles; the Leading Lady (straight with volume), the Femme Fatale (my choice — beachy waves), and the Scene Stealer (soft, bouncy curls), among others.
Founders Julie and Katie (said mother-daughter duo), and my stylist, Tim, helped me select which service was the best for my limp locks. Additionally, Tim educated me on how to make my blow-out last for a week’s time. I may or may not have been fully listening, though, as this was during the scalp massage portion of the service.
I went with the Femme Fatale, and I was definitely, ahem, blown away by the results.
In addition to daily specials, the salon is running a Valentine’s Day special next week for a blow-out and complementary make-up application for $60. Assuming your man’s buying dinner or your getting ready for a night out with your girlfriends, that’s not too shabby of an investment.
Thanks for having me, Blow! You can bet I’ll be back for Sunday brunch. For additional info and to see more photos of the salon, click here.
*Disclaimer: While my blow-out service was comp’ed, I was not asked to write this review. Opinions are my own and I will bow to anyone who can breathe volume into my life-less locks.

I’ve never had a blow-out either and I’m confused about how I could make it last for a week considering I run or go to the gym almost every day. I’m guessing ponytails and sweat don’t make for a long-lasting blow-out!

Love a good blow out! and @Erin, you could still stretch it to at least 5 days with dry shampoo and doing a pony or braid on the last day. Just don’t wash your hair after the gym and when you get out of the shower, flip your hair over and blast the roots with a blowdryer to get moisture out and use a little dry shampoo! It’s not as gross as it sounds!

$60 for a BJ & Makeup is SO GOOD!! Seriously blow outs are a major obsession of mine, if I could do them every week I so would! Totally worth the gorg hair & cocktail.

You look hot girl! That hair is fabulous. And $35 is an awesome price, pretty sure I’m gonna have to stop by next time I’m in Chicago. Weekend in the city? Perfect excuse for a blow-out!
