Statement Red Suede Jacket

After a summer full of lights and brights, I’m excited to embrace a darker, more muted color palette for fall.

The Challenge: As luck would have it, T.J.Maxx recently approached me and a few other lovely ladies (via Glam) to shop the store on a budget. And given my cause-for-concern shopaholic tendencies, I happily accepted. I’m out to prove (to myself and to you) that a few affordable pieces can breathe new life into your wardrobe. Seamlessly.

The Goods: When I stepped foot in-store, I gravitated toward everything deep maroon, striped and navy. I ended up with a few wallet-friendly designer finds (for less, naturally), including this suede jacket, a leather skirt, a patterned blouse and some because-I’m-going-to-live-in-these ankle booties.

The Series: Over the next few weeks, I’ll be sharing fall styling tips and tricks for dressing on-trend (when you’re on a budget). And, of course, my #Maxxinista finds. Think of it as a curated series of my favorite fall pieces — it’s all about style and warmth as we get ready to layer up as the weather cools.

For today’s look, let’s focus on the jacket. If you don’t already have your go-to this fall, stop reading and get thee to TJ’s. Like, now.

This year, I’m looking to polished tweeds and lots of leather in the coat category. I went with statement red suede, and I’ve been wearing this jacket with everything from shift dresses to striped separates and micro-mini skirts.

To round it out for the day, here’s a few tips on how to shop for the perfect fall jacket this season:

  • Invest in a suede or leather jacket or coat with zippered details. It’s a versatile look that’s equally functional, and either style will add an on-trend finish to everything else you put on.
  • Have fun with textures, like a luxe, velvet blazer that you can dress up at the office or down with denim.
  • Take a risk with a new silhouette, like I did — this suede jacket has more of a relaxed fit, but that’s so I can wear it with layers on layers on layers.

  1. That’s it. I’m going back there today and crossing my sausage fingers that they still have that jacket!! Ugh, why didn’t I get it last week when we were there?! #shoppingfail

  2. Love the red leather jacket. Brown and black are so classic, but red is just as useful! Love all the ways you styled it, especially when paired with a leather skirt!

  3. For your inspiration board you most recently posted I purchased the Zara shoes - (goldenrod color)they are beautiful and look and feel very expensive despite their $100 price tag!! The mod cloth infinity scarf - very nice. Soft and pretty color. I also bought a burgundy purse recently from Target and I wanted to share! http://www.target.com/p/merona-reg-satchel-handbag-red/-/A-14590418#prodSlot=large_1_19. :)
