Hi, nice to meet you.
I'm Hallie, a Midwest native, New York City transplant and the mind behind corals + cognacs. If you're looking for an online destination for stylish inspiration and musings on Manhattan living, you've come to the right place.
Here's a bit more about me (and if you'd like to keep in touch, you can find me on Instagram, Twitter and Facebook).
I hope you enjoy reading corals + cognacs as much as I enjoy writing it.
FAQ //LOCATION: New York, New York •BY WAY OF: The Midwest (Cleveland/Chicago) •HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE YOUR STYLE? Attainable, trendy and fun. I’m constantly wearing unexpected pairings – like statement pumps and a graphic tee. •FAVORITE ITEM IN YOUR CLOSET? The vintage Gucci clutch I thrifted for $40. •ANY OBSESSIONS? I like my coffee black, my heels high and my martinis dirty. •GUILTY PLEASURES? Complex carbohydrates and shoe shopping -- both in excess. (And SoulCycle, as a result.)
ARE YOU A FULL-TIME BLOGGER? No, I work as a Development Manager and Contributing Editor at Glam.com. •WHY DID YOU START YOUR BLOG? I've spent nearly seven years on the corporate grind, where sartorial humor and an expertly crafted color-block can get lost in the boardroom. As a result, I decided to create a blog -- a space where I’d hoped my writing, styling and excessive shoe collection would be better comprehended. •WHAT’S IT ABOUT? Living stylish and spontaneously in New York City – and beyond. I aim to inspire others to have fun with fashion and to live lightheartedly •HOW’D YOU THINK OF THE NAME? To be honest, the name just came to me. I’m a big color-blocker and a sucker for alliteration in writing. It just fit. •WHAT’S THE CORRECT WAY TO WRITE IT? corals + cognacs.
HOW DO YOU PRONOUNCE IT? corals and cone-yaks. •WHAT KIND OF CAMERA DO YOU USE? A Canon T3i with a 50mm f/1.4 lens. •DON’T YOU FEEL WEIRD TAKING PHOTOS OF YOURSELF? Absolutely. Everyone looks at me like I’m insane – especially when it’s cold. Wouldn’t you? •DO YOU WORK WITH ADVERTISERS/SPONSORS? Yep! Shoot me an e-mail and let’s talk. •HOW ELSE CAN WE KEEP IN TOUCH? On Twitter, Facebook and Instagram.
I had one of those where I think I ate everything in site (whoops), but hey… Everything in moderation — including moderation!
… Today’s post is quite fitting, as a result.
By request, I’m going to start sharing more about my wellness, diet and weight loss strategies with you guys. Today it’s all about my favorite healthy, low-calorie and easy-to-make meal for before or in-between SoulCycle classes: The Green Smoothie.
Admittedly, I’ve been on a bit of a Greek yogurt bender over the last few months — and in smoothies, I use it consistently to achieve that thick, creamy consistency. (The one that’s seemingly impossible to create at home!)
Base-wise, I’ve been going with Chobani Simply 100’s flavors — and for a few reasons: They’re fat-free, flavorful and individually packaged (thus, no measuring is required — ideal for the girl who snoozes too long each AM). Plus, as mentioned in a post last week, it’s the only all-natural Greek yogurt on the market without any artificial sweeteners or add-ins.
Greek yogurt smoothies are delicious, nutritious and chock-full of protein. They’re great for weight loss and overall digestion — and they’re easy to make, too!
Here’s two of my current favorites, inspired by Chobani Simply 100’s Greek yogurt line:
Start by blending the kale and almond milk together. Once the consistency is liquid (i.e. no leafy green chunks), add the rest of the ingredients and mix together on high. It shouldn’t take longer than 30 seconds depending on your blender — I use the Nutribullet, available at Macy’s. (The premium version is great, too — and on sale at Bloomingdale’s.)
The combo of the frozen banana coupled with the Greek yogurt’s berry-tasting, creamy texture is key to making a smoothie with thicker consistency. Oh, and make sure you peel the banana before you stick it in the freezer!

Here’s another favorite: This refreshing mix of coconut water, acai and mixed berry yogurt is the perfect afternoon pick-me-up.
Acai Berry Smoothie
Handful of kale or spinach
1 frozen acai packet
1 frozen banana
1/2 cup coconut water (or almond milk)
1 Chobani Simply 100 Very Berry (around 5 ounces)
The yogurt’s flavors (a mildly tart-tasting mix of strawberry, dragonfruit and raspberry puree) blend well with the coconut water and frozen acai. Don’t forget to blend the greens first-and-foremost!
What are some of your favorite smoothie recipes?
Pin this now (below), make it later — and let me know what you think! If you don’t have a blender/something to make smoothies at home, I’d highly recommend starting with the Nutribullet.

Thanks to Chobani for partnering on this post.
All opinions are, of course, my own.
I’m obsessed with a super similar smoothie from Terri in NYC, sooo good. When I’m back living in Philly I’ll have to try making this smoothie for myself!
I either have a green smoothie or overnight oats for my breakfast, I’m totally hooked. Lately, I’ve been in kale, almond milk, frozen banana, chia seeds, pb2 and frozen strawberries - it’s like a healthy PB+J!
My first job in high school was at a Juice Stop! I got a ridiculous amount of enjoyment from making smoothies lol. Making sure you peel the bananas before you freeze them is a game-changer! I need to bust out my Magic Bullet again and give this a try 🙂
This is awesome, Hallie! I love that you’re doing some health + wellness posts. I’ve been wanting to ask you – occasionally I’ll have a reaaally off day at my spin class where I feel like I just cannot keep up like I normally can, no matter how hard I try. Does this (or did it ever) happen to you?! I figure it’s some combination of hydration, food, time of month, sleep, etc. but I didn’t know if there was anything that stands out that could cause this!! XO
I just made a key lime green smoothie this morning. It was BANGIN. Also, I had the most amazing dessert at Sweet Mandy B’s this weekend—choc chip cookie dough sandwiched btw 2 chocolate chip cookies. OMG.
Love these recipes and love that you’re sharing more of your health/diet! My favorite currently is kale, pineapple, and coconut water. So refreshing!

Thanks for the smoothie recipes, Hallie! A smoothie is my favorite way to start the day, especially since I’m not a big breakfast person.
