Cool Sh*t to Share, Vol. 2

Happy holiday weekend, my friends! What’s on your agenda for the Fourth?

I’ll be around today and Sunday (teaching at SoulCycle — live DJ ride tonight!) but am heading up to Michigan to celebrate for the remainder of the weekend.

Let’s get to this week’s links — lots of notable sales to share, too.

Peaks & Pits

Peak: Had a chance to preview one of Wicker Park (Chicago)’s newest restaurant/bars this week — Mahalo. The entire place is ‘gram worthy (evidenced here) and the drinks are on point. Add it to your list!

Pit: The passing of Bill Cunningham, for sure. I included a (very brief) blurb about his impact on me in the Instagram below, but wanted to mention that there’s a petition going around to rename the street-corner he used to frequent to “Bill Cunningham’s Corner.” Please sign and share it, if you feel so obliged!

Was offline all yesterday but wanted to pay a little homage to Bill… 💔 This man and his blue jacket have always been my ultimate “celebrity sighting.” 😌💙 I’ll never forget the first time I saw him in-person on his rickety red bicycle (it was February, Fashion Week and FREEZING, naturally). 😁 When I heard the “click” of his camera & noticed it was aimed in my direction, I truly freaked the f*ck out. 📸‼️😵 RIP to the OG street style spectator… A man whose work will forever be an iconic example of turning your passion into a profession — and doing it with your whole damn heart. Thank you, #BillCunningham. 💙 (Also, if you’ve never seen his documentary, you must. It’s incredible!)

Here are this week’s links:

  • An insightful read from The Coveteur on the mental, emotional and physical benefits of different boutique exercise studios (including SoulCycle).
  • I get this question a lot: Shouldn’t I not eat carbs if I want to lose weight? Not necessarily, no, and here’s a good article on why (/what carbs you should eat). Basically, your body needs whole carbohydrates like sweet potatoes, quinoa and chickpeas — just don’t binge on ’em.
  • Macy’s has a lot of blenders on sale, and I’ve been wanting to upgrade from my Nutribullet. I would love to own a Vitamix, but from the research I’ve done it seems like this Blendtec is just as good (and a bit less expensive)… Do you own either?

Lastly, here’s a few notable sales happening over the weekend… Wouldn’t be a holiday without ’em, no? #Merica

Be safe, have fun and stay hydrated this weekend. Catch you after the long weekend, my friends!

  1. We have a Vitamix and give it thumbs up - has many uses- even makes soup- worth every penny. I haven’t heard any reviews on Blendtec, so can’t say if it’s as good.

  2. I love the Blendtec! I could not decide between the Vitamix and the Blendtec, but ultimately went with the Blendtec. The Blentec was less expensive and seemed easier to store.. my sister has a vitamix and said she can never find a place for it because it is so large. I will say that the blades quit spinning on my Blentec once, but I called the customer service number and they sent me a replacement jar (no charge) by the end of the week. I have not had that issue again. Enjoy some time in Michigan for the fourth!!

  3. I have a Vitamix and it is so worth the price. Definitely get the nicest one you can find. My parents have one of the professional ones and I definitely notice that it is better than my basic model. The pro ones take up a bit more counter space, but if it’s something you’ll use every day, definitely invest.

  4. Love this series, per usual! Pit of my week was 100% the news about Bill Cunningham as well. He was so iconic and the industry will certainly never be the same. Have a great holiday weekend, Hallie!
