It’s Wedding (Guest) Season! What Are You Wearing?

I’ve got my first (of many) fall weddings on the horizon in Minnesota this weekend. Beyond the fact that I’m looking forward to celebrating with/for a couple of my college friends, I definitely don’t mind a good excuse to shop for a cute new dress… Or two.

So, the up-front question: What do you wear to a fall wedding?

Personally, I usually look to Nordstrom first-and-foremost. (And FYI, this is not a sponsored post — I’m just sharing my go-to’s with you.)

The site has some really great dresses for any and all wedding-related occasions — and lucky for us — all of this year’s styles come in some seriously stand-out silhouettes. Think off-the-shoulder, fit-and-flare and so on.

My personal favorite is the fit-and-flare — a silhouette that I think looks good on everyone.

This one in particular fits like a glove and is juuust formal enough that it can either appear dressed up or dressed down (paired with a jean jacket, perhaps).

… Plus, it has pockets, guys. Game-changer.

I’d suggest pairing it with a nude sandal (mine are Steve Madden’s ‘Stecy,’ but here’s a similar pair for less/with a smaller heel) and topping off your look with a berry lip — like my favorite, NARS satin lip pencil in ‘Palais Royal’.

When you’re shopping and/or getting ready for your weddings this season, just bear a few things in mind:

Steer clear from white, ivory or cream-colored fabrics — duh — and keep your prints on more of the modest end of the spectrum. The last thing you want to do is upstage the bride, right?

  5. Now the trickier question — what do I wear to photograph wedding in WI fall? Jumpsuits are perfection all summer long, but then I start needing layers to stay warm enough when shooting outside. I do all right with dresses and tights but I definitely don’t feel as cute as I do in summer!
