Margarita Moments

I don’t know if you’re aware, but I have a side-job of advocating for proper margarita-making (and consuming).

Today’s post is an Ode to the Margarita. And not that one needs a reason to celebrate accordingly, Cinco de Mayo is certainly justification to do so. Ole!

If you’ve been a c+c reader for awhile, you may remember when I ventured to Atlantic City beach with Sauza Tequila last summer. We spent the day (18 hours, to be exact) filming a fun how-to video for hosting a great Girl’s Night In, which ended in (what else) — corals-induced shenanigans. If you haven’t seen the video, it’s worth a watch until the end — but I digress…

I’m back this season to celebrate Cinco de Mayo (albeit a few days early) with the Sauza-rita — a light, deliciously festive twist on the classic tequila cocktail.

DIY-Margaritas

Perfecting the at-home signature cocktail can be a challenge. All self-respecting margaritas are made with 100 percent agave tequila, which is why I’ve been using Sauza Blue Silver as of late (which, admittedly, I hadn’t discovered until a tequila-tasting event last week).

The citrus aroma, the name and the taste — everything about the Sauza-rita sits well with me. (Unless I’ve had one too many, in which case the following morning becomes the exception.) To whip up your own, here’s what you’ll need:

  • One bottle of Sauza Blue agave tequila (I’m using Sauza Blue Silver)
  • One bottle of light beer
  • One can of frozen Limeade (fresh limeade or lime juice can be used as a healthy substitute)
  • Water

And here’s how you craft the cocktail:

  1. Slice a lime and moisten the rim of your glasses. Coat it with coarse salt (using a plate).
  2. Pour the limeade and water into a pitcher (use equal proportions of limeade and water).
  3. Add a bottle of light beer (I used Corona Light, which adds a bit of fizz). Continue by adding 12 ounces of Sauza Blanco Tequila.
  4. Stir, serve over ice and enjoy.
  5. If you want to spice things up — quite literally — rim your glasses with cumin or salt or cayenne salt.

Now, in the spirit of Friday — let’s share stories. Shall we? Responsibly so, of course (hashtag this is a legal requirement).

You know how I feel about Mexican food and beverage (typically in excess, por favor), so I’ve had my fair share of #MargaritaMoments. Some awkward, some embarrassing — though always hilariously light-hearted.

Since this post is brand-sponsored, I can’t go into the dirty details… Generally speaking, mine tend to go from this to THIS and — as a result — this.

Ah, yeah… About that. How do you say YOLO en español?

  3. Can we please get some more details on the garbage truck ride!? The recipe looks great - those margarita mixes always turn out gross and too sweet.

  4. Haha, I’m so intrigued by the mention of riding a garbage truck! 😉 Love me a margarita. That’s what’s getting me through this Monday- the promise of Cinco de Mayo margaritas after work!
