Hi, nice to meet you.
I'm Hallie, a Midwest native, New York City transplant and the mind behind corals + cognacs. If you're looking for an online destination for stylish inspiration and musings on Manhattan living, you've come to the right place.
Here's a bit more about me (and if you'd like to keep in touch, you can find me on Instagram, Twitter and Facebook).
I hope you enjoy reading corals + cognacs as much as I enjoy writing it.
FAQ //LOCATION: New York, New York •BY WAY OF: The Midwest (Cleveland/Chicago) •HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE YOUR STYLE? Attainable, trendy and fun. I’m constantly wearing unexpected pairings – like statement pumps and a graphic tee. •FAVORITE ITEM IN YOUR CLOSET? The vintage Gucci clutch I thrifted for $40. •ANY OBSESSIONS? I like my coffee black, my heels high and my martinis dirty. •GUILTY PLEASURES? Complex carbohydrates and shoe shopping -- both in excess. (And SoulCycle, as a result.)
ARE YOU A FULL-TIME BLOGGER? No, I work as a Development Manager and Contributing Editor at Glam.com. •WHY DID YOU START YOUR BLOG? I've spent nearly seven years on the corporate grind, where sartorial humor and an expertly crafted color-block can get lost in the boardroom. As a result, I decided to create a blog -- a space where I’d hoped my writing, styling and excessive shoe collection would be better comprehended. •WHAT’S IT ABOUT? Living stylish and spontaneously in New York City – and beyond. I aim to inspire others to have fun with fashion and to live lightheartedly •HOW’D YOU THINK OF THE NAME? To be honest, the name just came to me. I’m a big color-blocker and a sucker for alliteration in writing. It just fit. •WHAT’S THE CORRECT WAY TO WRITE IT? corals + cognacs.
HOW DO YOU PRONOUNCE IT? corals and cone-yaks. •WHAT KIND OF CAMERA DO YOU USE? A Canon T3i with a 50mm f/1.4 lens. •DON’T YOU FEEL WEIRD TAKING PHOTOS OF YOURSELF? Absolutely. Everyone looks at me like I’m insane – especially when it’s cold. Wouldn’t you? •DO YOU WORK WITH ADVERTISERS/SPONSORS? Yep! Shoot me an e-mail and let’s talk. •HOW ELSE CAN WE KEEP IN TOUCH? On Twitter, Facebook and Instagram.
I don’t know if you’re aware, but I have a side-job of advocating for proper margarita-making (and consuming).
Today’s post is an Ode to the Margarita. And not that one needs a reason to celebrate accordingly, Cinco de Mayo is certainly justification to do so. Ole!
If you’ve been a c+c reader for awhile, you may remember when I ventured to Atlantic City beach with Sauza Tequila last summer. We spent the day (18 hours, to be exact) filming a fun how-to video for hosting a great Girl’s Night In, which ended in (what else) — corals-induced shenanigans. If you haven’t seen the video, it’s worth a watch until the end — but I digress…
I’m back this season to celebrate Cinco de Mayo (albeit a few days early) with the Sauza-rita — a light, deliciously festive twist on the classic tequila cocktail.
Perfecting the at-home signature cocktail can be a challenge. All self-respecting margaritas are made with 100 percent agave tequila, which is why I’ve been using Sauza Blue Silver as of late (which, admittedly, I hadn’t discovered until a tequila-tasting event last week).
The citrus aroma, the name and the taste — everything about the Sauza-rita sits well with me. (Unless I’ve had one too many, in which case the following morning becomes the exception.) To whip up your own, here’s what you’ll need:
One bottle of Sauza Blue agave tequila (I’m using Sauza Blue Silver)
One bottle of light beer
One can of frozen Limeade (fresh limeade or lime juice can be used as a healthy substitute)
Water
And here’s how you craft the cocktail:
Slice a lime and moisten the rim of your glasses. Coat it with coarse salt (using a plate).
Pour the limeade and water into a pitcher (use equal proportions of limeade and water).
Add a bottle of light beer (I used Corona Light, which adds a bit of fizz). Continue by adding 12 ounces of Sauza Blanco Tequila.
Stir, serve over ice and enjoy.
If you want to spice things up — quite literally — rim your glasses with cumin or salt or cayenne salt.
ARRIBA!
Now, in the spirit of Friday — let’s share stories. Shall we? Responsibly so, of course (hashtag this is a legal requirement).
You know how I feel about Mexican food and beverage (typically in excess, por favor), so I’ve had my fair share of #MargaritaMoments. Some awkward, some embarrassing — though always hilariously light-hearted.
Since this post is brand-sponsored, I can’t go into the dirty details… Generally speaking, mine tend to go from this to THIS and — as a result — this.
Or this:
Ah, yeah… About that. How do you say YOLO en español?

Haha, I’m so intrigued by the mention of riding a garbage truck! 😉 Love me a margarita. That’s what’s getting me through this Monday- the promise of Cinco de Mayo margaritas after work!
These look insanely delish! Will have to try!

Definitely — and frozen limeade is great if it’s hot outside (fingers crossed, there). Let me know what you think Rosa!
It’s always 5 o’ clock in Margaritaville! 😉

Can we please get some more details on the garbage truck ride!? The recipe looks great - those margarita mixes always turn out gross and too sweet.
Couldn’t agree more - too much added sugar!
And… Maybe. ; )
So cute! The texts between you and Jess made the post haha
