Mood Board, Vol. 3 | July 2013

In my Pinterest-curated fairy tale, July is all about green grass, gingham picnic blankets, firework-watching and summer brew.

In New York, I’m learning, it’s actually about unbearable humidity, inevitable pit stains, dropping way too much money for a (worth it) weekend in the Hamptons, and, well, summer brew. As a result, I’m working a variety of simple shapes and no-fuss frills into my wardrobe this month.

It’s all about Aloe Vera and a laid-back aesthetic for the next few weeks. Cheers!

Recently, I’ve seen more than my fair share of rain-ridden, gloomy days across the country. I spent a few days in San Fran this week where I was formally introduce to what West Coasters refer to as the “June Gloom.” (I should have anticipated it having read this recent post by Jacey!)

A Weekend in Southampton

As you’ll know if you follow me on Instagram, I spent the weekend in Southampton soaking up the sun with a few girlfriends.

Highlights include: cocktail’ing al fresco at Tutto Il Giorno (Donna Karen’s daughter’s restaurant), partying at Southampton Social Club, watching the sunrise over the bay and so much more.

My favorite part of our trip was spent aimlessly wandering the village of Southampton. Think Gatsby-style mansions, unspoiled beaches, renowned restaurants and vine-ridden brick-and-mortar stores. Everyone I passed seemed to be wearing gauzy cotton shirts, denim cut-offs and striped espadrilles (I must own these). It was exactly as I’d pictured it to be.

We spent a number of afternoons walking up and down the village’s main streets, taking in the scenery and venturing into a shops — including Jildor, Sequin and C. Wonder.

As a first-timer to the East End, I welcomed the opportunity to escape the New York City heat wave. It was refreshing to be surrounded by so much inspiration, so you can expect to see a few more Hamptons-related posts (and outfits) on corals + cognacs throughout the next week or so.

As for my Southampton village love affair, here’s a sneak peek of what I wore, which I’ll share in more detail tomorrow:

You know this by now, but I’ve accidentally perfected the art of becoming a Serial Snooze Artist.**

When this happens, as it does — or worse, a closet crisis or mounting pile of laundry paralyzes my outfitting abilities — I keep calm and reach for two key pieces (that currently have stakeholder status in the real estate of my wardrobe): A semi-sheer blouse and a comfortable pair of cotton pants.

Mood Board | May 2013

Happy May! Although, wasn’t it just Thanksgiving? Feels like it on my end.

Truth be told, we East Coast’ers have been chomping at the bit for a consistently daily dose of spring. (More on Mother Nature’s unpredictable manner here.) I’m ready to don my delicate tanks, white jeans and floating maxi dresses.

As a result, this month’s mood board entails a lot of transitional separates — pieces you can purchase to take you from spring to summer (and soon enough, summer to fall). Among my inspirations are structured separates, monochromatic pairings and a touch of tough-girl. These low-maintenance looks have lept off the screen in the form of a few recent personal style posts, too.
