Not Over Ombré

In researching today’s post, I had a revelation: I’m decidedly not over dip-dye.

More often referred to as “ombré,” this trend of stylish gradation has splashed its way across the runway, landed in our living rooms and even ended up in our locks and on our lips.

Target now offers an affordable take on the trend, making it an easy for us to (re)invent into our spring wardrobes. Why I’m still hooked? The dip-dye effect of subtle shading from saturated to soft colors feels like a modern take on the sunny tie-dye trends of generations ago. I don’t know about you, but as much as I love cute winter coats and layering for winter, I’m ready for abundant sunshine and happy hours al fresco.

Those days are still a bit far off here in New York, so when Target tasked me (via Glam) with styling their dip-dye collection to create a trendy set of spring ensembles, I jumped at the opportunity to overcome my annual SAD.

Here’s a few ways I’d wear it, styled from head-to-toe in pieces available exclusively at Target.

  1. I’m so not sick of ombre either, more please! I do like a little bit more of a subtle fade than these pieces have, but I’ll still probably be looking into that swimsuit!

  3. My daughter caught onto the trend almost 2 years ago and has gone die crazy. I thought it was just a fad with her, but now I see that it is all over the place. I do like the things that you have put together and I like the new collection. I guess my daughter, Becky, does have that eye for fashion.

  4. I might try this fashion if I can find clothing worth wearing. The styles shown has a very old person feel to it.

  5. These are some fun outfits. Tie-dye sure has come a LONG way!!

  6. My daughter has Ombre HAIR!! Not on purpose, though - she has VERY long hair and used to color it DARK DARK DARK red, almost black. She stopped a few years ago and now her natural reddish brown is halfway down her back and the black is the lower half. She’s always getting compliments on her ombre hair and it was a total accident!!

  7. I didn’t think I would like this trend but I do think some of it is subtle enough to work if it is not overdone. Love the little outfits that you put together, not so sure about the pictures of rooms. I think it would get “old” fast for me.

  8. I like the weekend wear. Why can’t target make cute clothes in plus size? Always boring plain clothes in plus size. Jazz it up with more pretty colors like the misses clothes.

  9. love the colors…all over in every store I go in.Guess I will buy a few new pieces this Spring.Love the outfits they picked.

  10. I like the ombre trend. Any tips on how to wear it if you have a large tummy and hips? I’m having some medical issues and my weight is out of control right now. I like to dress in a way that makes my problem areas not so obvious.

  11. I love the dresses, especially the black, gray and white mix. The colors blend so well together it makes the shape of the dress stand out!

  12. I love Ombre in moderation! You can put lots of cute looks together without overdoing just like the fab outfits above!

  13. I grew up in the 60′s and the 70′s, so I am tickled to see this “tie-dyed” or ombre style come back! I liked it back then and I like it now!!
