Pencil Skirt Style

in outfits, what i'm wearing

The pencil skirt has had a serious revival in my closet this season.

My latest obsession is the J. Crew No. 2 – it comes in seven colors and I’ve justified purchasing two (okay, three) because of the sale price. (*Editor’s Note: Go down one full size, I’m usually a 6 and in J. Crew I wear a 4; also, additional 30% off with code STYLESCORE!)

At any rate, I’ve been reaching for them for both work and weekend styling. Sure, that’s partially because I’m living out of a suitcase, but really, it’s because of my recent (re)discovery of the versatility of this long-and-lean cut. For the office, a pencil skirt looks as great with a blouse and pumps. On the weekends, I wear it layered with tights, moto boots and a chambray top.

I’m going through that awkward phase of transitioning my wardrobe from winter to spring, which is how this ensemble was born.

As a self-proclaimed party starter, I knew an end-of-the-day happy hour was in order, so I started with foundational brights (shoes and skirt) from the get-go and created a little contrast by mixing a tough-and-tailored jacket or pair of cute boot(ie)s.
