The pencil skirt has had a serious revival in my closet this season.
My latest obsession is the J. Crew No. 2 – it comes in seven colors and I’ve justified purchasing two (okay, three) because of the sale price. (*Editor’s Note: Go down one full size, I’m usually a 6 and in J. Crew I wear a 4; also, additional 30% off with code STYLESCORE!)
At any rate, I’ve been reaching for them for both work and weekend styling. Sure, that’s partially because I’m living out of a suitcase, but really, it’s because of my recent (re)discovery of the versatility of this long-and-lean cut. For the office, a pencil skirt looks as great with a blouse and pumps. On the weekends, I wear it layered with tights, moto boots and a chambray top.
I’m going through that awkward phase of transitioning my wardrobe from winter to spring, which is how this ensemble was born.
As a self-proclaimed party starter, I knew an end-of-the-day happy hour was in order, so I started with foundational brights (shoes and skirt) from the get-go and created a little contrast by mixing a tough-and-tailored jacket or pair of cute boot(ie)s.

J.Crew pencil skirt (also like this version)| Marc Jacobs bag | 3.1 Phillip Lim booties

I adore these skirt I have 3 from the factory store and about 5 from the wool serge collection in the regular store. They are perfect for work, I’m wearing the cobalt blue one right now.

So excited to see this skirt in mint since it’s sold out on their regular site in that color. I’m obsessed with the bright colors their pencil skirt is coming in now!

Argh! There’s a part of me that really wants a red pencil skirt…but another part of me that doesn’t’ want to spend the dough. Decisions, decisions!

Had been eyeing it in the blue Ikat pattern, so this set me over to buy it! I have two of the wool No. 2s (wearing one right now, actually) and as you said, they are great for transitioning from work to happy hour - did that last Friday (and at your going away party, Hallie!).

Love the combo of the bright red pencil skirt w/ those FABULOUS 3.1 Phillip Lim booties! And of course, we can’t forget to talk about the amazing Bauble Bar necklace! Pencil skirts are one of my favorite pieces too. It gives such a great slimming affect and with the way it hugs your curves, is so flattering on so many different body types. You did say they were on sale a J.Crew - right?
It looks like things are shaping up really well for you in NYC! Congrats on the new apartment!
