Wide-Leg Jeans: Beyond the Boot-Cut

There are two sure-fire ways to make your denim look super-chic, my friends.

Perhaps it’s the whole oversized aesthetic for fall that’s got my eye right now — this sweater in everysinglecolorOMG, for example — but I’ve been all about getting re-acquainted with this fashionable flare (ahem) for the season.

I’m a repeat offender for the perfect pair of skinny jeans, but there’s a certain swagger that appeals in wearing wide-leg denim, don’t you think?

It can be tricky to figure out what to wear with wide-leg jeans, but the key to making it work is all about the length: The perfect pair should sit low on your hips and barely graze the ground when you’re walking (strutting). The streets of New York City in particular are exceptionally unforgiving — you don’t want them looking torn and tattered after one wear, after all.

As for the rest of your outfit, it’s best to off-set the volume with a tucked-in top — and fitted jacket or blazer, if it’s chilly. Your shoes should be hiding, but nonetheless: stick to an open- or round-toe pump or wedge.

If you can commit to wearing high heels for the day (or to wherever it is you’re going), this leg-lengthening silhouette is sure to wow.

  1. I need to get out of my black pant rut, because it’s all I’m wearing right now. The wide-leg look looks so good on you, and it’s definitely a refresh of the traditional skinny jean we all wear. Love that yellow sweater on you. J.Crew cashmere is the best!

  13. I have the same phone case! Isn’t it the best? (Praying I don’t drop my phone though!). The flare jeans are also great - I have yet to figure out a way to pull them off, but I think you nailed it.
