Hi, nice to meet you.

I hope you enjoy reading corals + cognacs as much as I enjoy writing it.
FAQ //LOCATION: New York, New York •BY WAY OF: The Midwest (Cleveland/Chicago) •HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE YOUR STYLE? Attainable, trendy and fun. I’m constantly wearing unexpected pairings – like statement pumps and a graphic tee. •FAVORITE ITEM IN YOUR CLOSET? The vintage Gucci clutch I thrifted for $40. •ANY OBSESSIONS? I like my coffee black, my heels high and my martinis dirty. •GUILTY PLEASURES? Complex carbohydrates and shoe shopping -- both in excess. (And SoulCycle, as a result.)
ARE YOU A FULL-TIME BLOGGER? No, I work as a Development Manager and Contributing Editor at Glam.com. •WHY DID YOU START YOUR BLOG? I've spent nearly seven years on the corporate grind, where sartorial humor and an expertly crafted color-block can get lost in the boardroom. As a result, I decided to create a blog -- a space where I’d hoped my writing, styling and excessive shoe collection would be better comprehended. •WHAT’S IT ABOUT? Living stylish and spontaneously in New York City – and beyond. I aim to inspire others to have fun with fashion and to live lightheartedly •HOW’D YOU THINK OF THE NAME? To be honest, the name just came to me. I’m a big color-blocker and a sucker for alliteration in writing. It just fit. •WHAT’S THE CORRECT WAY TO WRITE IT? corals + cognacs.
HOW DO YOU PRONOUNCE IT? corals and cone-yaks. •WHAT KIND OF CAMERA DO YOU USE? A Canon T3i with a 50mm f/1.4 lens. •DON’T YOU FEEL WEIRD TAKING PHOTOS OF YOURSELF? Absolutely. Everyone looks at me like I’m insane – especially when it’s cold. Wouldn’t you? •DO YOU WORK WITH ADVERTISERS/SPONSORS? Yep! Shoot me an e-mail and let’s talk. •HOW ELSE CAN WE KEEP IN TOUCH? On Twitter, Facebook and Instagram.
There’s something youthfully elegant about an oversized blazer... (And amazing, at that. Over-sized silhouettes have been my bagel-loving self’s BFF.) And when paired with a powerful primal print clutch in-hand — or under arm — today’s ensemble blends playful and timeless into one cohesive aesthetic.
This piece is a super simple, recent — and favorite — addition to my closet. It makes getting dressed for that day a breeze — especially if you know it’s gonna be one of those that bleeds well beyond happy hour… Which is never a bad thing.
A quick PSA if you’d be planning to wear this to the office: The length hits well below the knee on petite gals (I’m 5’4″), but know that you won’t be able to wear a bra — unless you wear a tank top underneath. If you’d rather wear this as a blazer than a dress, I’d suggest going down a size.
The dress would be cute when styled unbuttoned (as an actual blazer) and with skinny jeans, too. I’d suggest tucking a white or neutral-colored tee into your pants so that you don’t look like a doctor in a white coat, though.
Lately, my renewed appreciation for nothin’ but neutrals has made it easy-peasy to coordinate the colors of my closet. (Thankfully — that deep sleep dilemma strikes again!)
I love the classic style of a blazer, but given the current contemporary style climate, I felt like re-energizing this piece and wearing it a bit differently. Partially due to taking in so much Fashion Week-oriented news and looks over the last few weeks, perhaps?
It’s a be-a-utiful 86-degree day in Chicago and the sun is been shining for as far as I can see, so I’m donning bare legs for as long as I can continue to do so. (And another PSA to you pumpkin spice lovin’ biddies: I love you — I do — but it’s still summer, damnit. A few more days!)
STUNNING lady! Loving everything about that outfit.

Looooooving this, Hallie! Really think I might need this in my closet.
Honestly I might get the blush-colored one, too. Make sure you note my comments about sizing, though! xo
