Mood Board | October 2013

A bit of a unique intro today, but justifiably so:

Have you listened to Kanye West’s new album, by chance? I don’t love him as a person, but his music is another story. And I honestly think he was writing about that pre-fall, post-Fashion Week period when he wrote the song Blood on the Leaves:

“I just need to clear my mind now
It‘s been racin’ since the summertime
… And all I want is what I can’t buy now
Cause I ain’t got the money on me right now”

Me too, Yeezus… Me too. Here’s what’s inspiring/taunting me for the month of October:

Oh-so-Stylish Weekend Stand-by: Sneaker Wedges

When wedge sneakers hit the fashion scene last year, was it a trend you thought you’d never try? It wasn’t exactly love at first sight for me, but you know I’ve never met a shoe I didn’t like… (except Crocs. Sorry, Crocs.)

Isabel Marant’s* uber-trendy platform wedge sneakers first took the fashion world by storm when street-stylers proved they could be worn both day or night. For me, they’re mainly a comfortable alternative to a daytime heel for weekend errands (or, let’s be honest, Sunday Funday).

My moment of Zsa Zsa Zu (ahem, anyone?) came as I was researching my post on 21 pairs of affordable wedge sneakers. I instantly and immediately obsessed over Rebecca Taylor’s cheetah version, so I kept a close on them over time. Incidentally, the only size they had left (mine) went on sale on my birthday and were even further reduced on Black Friday. Fate/no brainer, right?

I tweeted about my find after I made the purchase, which I believe peer pressured prompted my blogging bud Katie to make the same investment. That’s why we’re linking up today to show you two ways to style the sneaker wedge trend.

Click over to her blog, Pearls and Twirls, to see how she wears her Rebecca Taylor sneaks. Then, if you’re not sure where to start to shop this trend, check out my list of favorite affordable sneaker wedges.

*Wearing: Blazer c/o Ann Taylor | Rebecca Taylor Isa wedges (sold out, similar; also love this pair + this pair) |
J Brand skinny jeans | vintage t-shirt | Foley + Corinna mid-city tote

*I had a hard time pronouncing this designer’s name at first, so take note from my lessons learned the hard way — Isabel Marant is pronounced “Ees-ah-bell Mar-awn(t),” soft T. May take you a few trys, but you you’ll get it.

Have a great weekend! The second installment of my Gossip Girl Fashion Copycat series is coming on Monday, so stay tuned.
