Runway Recap: Thakoon F/W 2012

Who: Thakoon Panichgul is known for his whimsy, and the aesthetic rang true in his collection for fall 2012.

What: Thakoon’s classy-with-an-edge girl wears prim shapes and exaggerated silhouettes, like leopard-trim collars (!), key-hole cutouts, silk ombre dresses and crinkled leather shifts. Her chunky sweaters thick with Mongolian fur were tucked neatly into wasp-waisted skirts.

The collection had me feeling like I was peeking into the closet of an impossibly chic French woman some time in the 70’s; very old New York City - understatedly sexy while, in true Thakoon fashion, maintaining a slightly ironic vibe. Rich in romantic hues of red, fuchsia and crimson, models sauntered down the runway at the The Plaza Hotel, each in prim shapes and surprising detail.

Oh, and did you notice the nails? At first glance, they look rather unkempt; but upon closer inspection, they have a buttercream color base with black tips.
