Behind the Scenes at Target’s Fall Fashion Show

I think I’m still recovering from this weekend’s Limsanity — with an actual shopping hangover. Were you able to snag a Pashli doppelgänger? If not, don’t lose hope — let’s wait for the online returns to trickle back in.

As you might know from my (Day 1) Fashion Week recap, I was lucky to attend a variety of Target-themed events over the course of the week — including the Phillip Lim collaboration launch and the actual runway show introducing the fall collection. (All designers debut their spring collections in September; Target was an exception.)

I went backstage on behalf of Glam.com to peep the runway style (print and leather mania!) and talk fall beauty trends with make-up expert Petra Strand, the founder of, beauty and brains behind Pixi, a line I’ve quickly learned to love.

I voluntarily spent most of my time backstage watching the make-up artists… And, of course, in close proximity to the shoes. The scene was really cool — the buzz of pre-Fashion Week energy was contagious, I was in just about every cameraman’s way at all times, and Petra herself was art directing most of the beauty looks.

That day, Target was also filming a few videos (that you’ll see around the web very soon). Petra and I had a chance to chat when the cameras were rolling, and I was struck by how down-to-earth she is. Despite more than 20 years as a namesake in the beauty industry, she was really light-hearted and approachable.

Petra’s a (working) mother of two, so her Pixi line is all about multitasking, flaw-fixing and youth-enhancing products for girls like us: On the go with no time to spare.

I asked her what Pixi products she was wearing — the flawless primer and beauty blush in Perkiest Pink (which I promptly added to my collection thereafter).

As for the Target fashion show, we saw a lot of mixed prints and embellished separates on the runway. Beauty-wise, it was all about the statement lip, minimal make-up and pretty, wavy hair.

In the days that followed, I was inspired to don a bolder lip than I normally do for Fashion Week. My look is subtle, yes, but I’m starting small with shades of peach and plum. Baby steps, guys.

I’ll share my runway photos with you next Monday — along with links to shop the line — but here’s a sneak peek to tide you over. I hope you didn’t do too much damage on the Phillip Lim for Target collaboration, because you’re going to want these Target namesake pieces in your closet, STAT.

  1. I feel like going backstage is even more fun than seeing the show. I love watching the makeup artists in action and really getting to see it firsthand. Of course then I try to do what they did to myself and fail miserably but it is still fun to try. I loved these photos, they really capture the energy of fashion week!

  2. i love target. i haven’t tried the pixi brand yet but i think i need to. also, i didn’t buy anything during limsanity, even though your links made me want to. i have a sticky note on my credit card that says “sofa” so i don’t buy anything else.

    • Definitely! I was (admittedly) a little skeptical since I’m kind of a Sephora snob, but I was pleasantly surprised with the quality of the Pixi beauty products. I like the Flawless primer almost better than Benefit’s!

And, so smart about the post-it. You go, girl. Get that sofa!
