The Case for a Colorful Coat

When it comes to wearing color, some of us tend to relegate our boldest hues for the summer months…

…But if you need proof that a statement bright looks just as stunning in December as it does in June (or if you just want to talk about some seriously amazing outerwear with me), look no further than today’s post.

Being an East Coast gal (by way of the Midwest), I know damn well the importance of having an extra-warm coat (or two) to get you through winter — which will undoubtedly last until April this year. Le sigh!

We’ve no choice but to embrace the chill, really, and my favorite way to breathe a little life into my winter wardrobe is through a bright, colorful coat.

Perhaps it’s an attempt at staving off an early on-set of SAD? Either way, this coat may have mood-lifting powers, because quite simply, the bold-and-bright hue makes me happy.

And believe it or not — it’s from Lands’ End.

…. I know, right? I hadn’t shopped at Lands’ End much before this month, but the brand has quickly become a major winter-weather staple in my wardrobe this season.

I fell head-over-heels for their brightly colored down vests (and subsequently bought one in every color for the ladies in my life). Their sweaters are great, too. What’s not to love about monogrammed cashmere?

With my newfound affinity (and lots of site browsing), I’ve been pleased to find that Lands’ End has a Pantone-worthy spectrum of colorful coats to choose from this season…

Oh and did I mention that puffer vest is on sale for $20?

My outerwear strategy is especially effective on travel days, since most of my jetset ensemble is neutral or black.

Speaking of which, I’m heading home for a few days of family time and holiday redux, which means things will be a quiet until after Christmas ’round here. I’ll still be Instagramming and Tweeting — but ultimately, I hope you’re planning to enjoy some time offline, too. What’s on the agenda?

///

I’ll be back after Christmas to share my New Year’s Eve plans (hint, hint: #jetsetcorals) and to recap the year — and what a year it’s been. I’ll give you a bit of a personal update, too (like what’s the story with my full-time job/career update, which I know some of you have been wondering about).

Wishing you all safe travels and the happiest of holidays!

  1. I can’t wait to head home tomorrow and spend time with my families. I foresee a whole lot of over-indulging going on the next few days, as well as catching up on some reading 😉 I hope your Christmas is the best one yet!

  2. Maybe it’s because I’m Canadian, but I have an obsession with coats. I literally buy one to three a year. I bought a new J. Crew one the other day (with the fluffy hood), but I completely agree with buying bright, colourful coats. They are a necessity from October to March, and I don’t want to be in black for that entire time! Love the look, Hallie!
