Handkerchief Hemlines

If I had to define my favorite time of year — in a more specific manner than just seasons — it’d be “leather weather.”

Or faux leather weather, in today’s case.

This winter was brutal, wasn’t it? Not necessarily in terms of snow, but endurance-wise — it just lasted a long time. A really, really long time.

I’m going to leave the weather talk at that for today, as I would rather not jinx us and wake up with a foot of snow on the ground this weekend. Could you imagine?

Leave it to me (and half of Manhattan, actually) to bust out bare legs (AHEM) on the first 60-some degree day of the season. I’m like a smiling, squinty-eyed bat out of hell — YAS SUNSHINE!

If spring was the moment of the midi skirt, this summer is all about a handkerchief hem — in my closet, at least.

I love the super-lightweight, flowy hem of this dress — and I’m convinced that it’s best accessorized with a glass of chilled rose. Or multiple, which you’ll get a chuckle out of if you follow me on Snapchat (@coralsncognacs). Last night, man — that was unexpected!

Are we sure it’s only Tuesday?

Like, positive?

All right, then.

I never realized that “handkerchief” was a style, but I guess it is. Now, naturally, I can’t get enough of ‘em (dresses, mainly).

I got the one I’m wearing from Shoptiques (when I did that photoshoot with them last month). It’s also available on Zappos, though — and Nordstrom has a lot of similar, affordable options from the same brand (and their Topshop line, too — this dress is my favorite).

Here’s a similar, dressier style a la Shopbop — which, FYI: is 25% off site-wide for their annual friends & family sale today. Use the code SPRING25.

It’s hard to find a universally figure-flattering dress that works for all shapes and sizes, but this just might be it.

On a similar note: For some reason, black strappy sandals are, like, the hardest shoes to shop for — ever. No?

I got lucky when I found my go-to pair at Zara, but these three styles from Dolce Vita ($80), Steve Madden ($109, my fave!), and Sam Edelman ($130) are also great options. I know they look hard to walk in, but the secret is to find a pair with a teeny, tiny hidden platform. This will save your feet, my friends!

Back for more tomorrow… In the meantime, happy leather weather!

  1. omg the handkerchief hem is back?! Seriously good thing I read your blog or I would have had no clue lol. Love the faux leather… it’s the easiest way to make anything a little bit more chic in my book. Love it!
