Summer Stripes

I’ve been embracing the idea of having a summer uniform as of late, and it’s made getting dressed a total breeze. (Ahem.)

Today’s ensemble in particular was like an easy game of matching.

You know I love a grab-and-go ensemble — and as my style has evolved, I think it’s actually simplified. I’ve started to gear more toward comfortable basics that still look polished, and over the past few weeks especially — it’s been so humid — nearly every daily ensemble has entailed a low-key cotton dress. (And, well, either a pair of tennis shoes or statement pumps — there is no middle ground!)

Remember this look from late last month?

This striped number is another summer front-runner, as it’s super lightweight. Plus, the strategically colored stripes make for a really flattering fit, and as a bonus, they matched the matte black Illesteva sunglasses that I finally bit the bullet on. I think I’ll get another pair later this summer — I’m really impressed by the quality (especially for the price).

Regardless of the temp, though, I always tie on a chambray shirt to ward off air conditioning overload. It’s inevitable, isn’t it?

Now, when you think of New York City’s best landmarks, you likely think of Lady Liberty or Central Park first-and-foremost. One location you may not be familiar with, though, with is Jane’s Carousel.

Jane’s Carousel is a wooden merry-go-round originally built in an Ohio theme park (near the town I grew up!), but it was purchased at auction and moved to Brooklyn for restoration.

Admittedly, I didn’t know that until I Googled it, but nonetheless…

It’s crazy to think I have just over two weeks left in New York City, and I fully intend on taking every advantage of the concrete jungle as my stomping ground.

As they say, the city is your playground… (Well, actually, “they” say that the world, is your playground, but you know how New York gets… Potato, puh-tah-toe. Wink!)

  2. Love those shoes! I was looking for them in nude but they’re sold out everywhere in my size. Darn these 8.5 average feet!

  3. I totally agree with your sentiment that finding a wardrobe that really embraces who you are gets easier with age. I’m finding the exact same thing - while I’m in love with frills and girly sequins, in everyday life I always stick to neutrals and loafers. So why spend more money on the occasional pieces than the realistic ones?
