Keep It Simple

Okay, guys. First things first: You’ll never guess where this bucket bag is from!

… OLD NAVY!

And it’s only $30. So good, right?

I know. I couldn’t believe it either! (And no, literally — I practically wore it out of the store.)

Anyway, just had to get that off my chest:

This is my first summer being self-employed (on the blog front, at least) — or rather, not having to work at a desk everyday. As a result, I’ve really started re-embracing the maxi dresses in my closet.

No, I know. Maxi dresses are — duh — a perfect summer staple, but I could never wear them when I worked in an office. Talk about an occupational hazard, am I right? I can’t tell you the number of fancy frocks I ruined rolling over my chair with them.

At any rate, I spend a lot of my time outdoors these days — going to-and-from the SoulCycle studio, meetings, coffee shop working sessions and the like. Hence the comfortable canvas kicks. (Or perhaps that last one is because I still don’t have furniture**, ha!)

The weekends, especially, are devoted to exploring (or going on a music-filled bender, like last weekend at Lolla). I continue to be impressed by how much Chicago has grown and developed since I moved away to New York. There’s so much to do and see — and eat, eat, eat.

Chicago is lovely in the summer in that it’s nice to walk everywhere, so I do. (Thank the Lord for comfortable canvas wedges!)

On a somewhat related note: Birchbox is taking a road trip and stopping in Chicago next weekend (as well as Atlanta and LA, which you can read more about here).

It’s free, and you can swing by to meet the EMPIRE cast (on Saturday from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m.), build your own Birchbox, enjoy free nail services and astrology readings. You can also shop full-size products and get free Beaver Donuts with any purchase. (I told you, so much to eat!) Check out Birchbox for more details.

  1. I’ve rolled over sooooo many of my dresses/skirts and then had to to pull them out without ruining them and ignoring the ‘looks’ I received. Thought I was the only one! Your dress looks so comfy.

  2. I’m in love with that bucket bag, so fab! Can’t blame you for wanting to use it ASAP. Also super excited for your collab with Havenly — I just got a new apartment (studio) that I’ll be moving into in a month or so and I’ll need to decorate for pretty much the first time in my life. Gah!

  3. Love this bag!!! It’s so cute, and it’s the perfect size. Also, agree to your comment about a maxi dress being the perfect summer staple. My faves!
