Simple Separates

I’m always surprised by which of my wardrobe staples gets the most mileage every season.

… And surprisingly, it tends to be those easy-to-throw-on separates that emerge as my Most Valuable Pieces. (Like this eggshell-colored tank and an easy pair of white jeans.)

Case-in-point here was yesterday’s ensemble, in which I wore what we’ll dub Corporate Pajamas: A super-soft cotton tee and my go-to airplane pants (slash hangover Mondaze pants).

Since we’re all collectively embarking on our own unique Summer(s) of Yes, we’re going to need a few foundational outfits to help us maneuver those manic Mondays (Tuesday, Wednesdays…).

If your yesterday was anything like my yesterday, you’re nodding.

As far as work-worthy lounge-wear goes, there’s a few brands that have it in spades — Rebecca Taylor and Joie are two of my favorites, among others.

In researching the concept of corporate pajamas over the weekend, I came up empty-handed. (IS THIS OUR MILLION DOLLAR IDEA?)

Well, not totally — because I did discover Lou & Grey. I’ve seen the brand splashed across the web a bit, but it wasn’t until I felt the linen-like materials between my palms that I actually stopped to admire the line’s fine stripes and light layers.

Lou & Grey is, essentially, a line of easy, texture-rich pieces that are meant for everyday wear. So, practically pajamas.

Here’s a few of my favorite pieces from the collection: (And there’s a few dresses from Anthro in there, for good measure — can’t go wrong with a cotton maxi, can you?)

As for me, I have the sweatshirt tee, striped shorts and denim jacket in my shopping cart. And, of course, this black tank dress, which I’ll be wearing until it’s cool enough to wear pants again. Which pieces most appeal to you?

To top off the look, might I suggest the perfect nude pump? Here’s a cute round-toe option too, if that’s your preference. And concealer, of course. So much concealer.

Now go ‘head, girl. Order that third glass of wine. Tomorrow you’ll be the talk of the office — but not in a post-holiday party kind of way.

  1. I’m loving this cream and white look on you. I first saw the Lou & Grey line in the LOFT store a few months ago and I really like it. I haven’t bought anything yet, but I really like how easy-going the pieces are.

  2. Yes to work worthy loungewear and corporate pyjamas! I was just wishing this week that I could roll into work in my pyjamas 😀 and I’m loving your vest! That material looks totally touchable :)

  3. You’re the 3rd or 30th blogger (I lost count!) to feature Lou and Grey pieces so apparently I need to get with the program. I’m definitely feelin’ the black and white striped sweater and the blue high-low dress.

P.S. Your all white ensemble has me saying YES, YES, YES (in a non-sexual way, of course). :)

  4. I love your choices! I really want the two striped chambray dresses! I may just have to pop in after work… Love the all white outfit - I would definitely end up spilling iced coffee or red wine all over it but it looks great on you!

What do you think?
