Date Night (or Late Night) Style File

Believe it or not, one of the questions I’ve been asked most frequently is about what I “actually wear” when I go out at night…

My friends could tell you, but I’m fairly laid-back in the looks department when it comes to the weekend or a good ol’ fashioned night out.

You know I love a lived-in-looking pair of 70’s style flares, but for a Thursday/Friday/Saturday night on the town, it’s all about skinny jeans — in dark-wash denim. And comfortable shoes, of course, as I tend to be of the out-all-night variety… Oops!

While there is no perfectly-executed ensemble quite like a white button-down and pair of jeans, your dressed-up pair of denim can be super-chic for a date night — or a late night.* And, you know, a great way to avoid wearing itchy tights in the winter.

These Hudson jeans — in all of their mid-waisted glory — are a recent addition to my wardrobe, and I love them because of the perfect, long-and-lean silhouette that they create. I’ve always been a fan of Hudson, but their collection (available at Zappos) this season is particularly inspiring — think 70’s, Military and Elysian styles.

Beyond that, I typically throw on a blousy black top — plus my favorite faux leather jacket when it gets cold — an eye-catching pair of heels (in today’s case, Topshop’s lace-up ‘Gillian’ pumps) and a minimalist clutch. Voila!

Oh, and my favorite fall-hued lip color: Palais Royale by NARS.

It’s the shade I’ve been rockin’ non-stop for the last few weeks. Today I have it layered over another lip color (NARS’ Never Say Never), which is why it looks a bit more matte.

As a random side-note: I’m not sure if it’s the Midwest or men in general (the latter, I think), but I’ve noticed that I generally get approached by guys more often when I’m dressed casually versus the times when I’m really dressed up. Not that I ever shop or get dressed for the male portion of the population, but you know. What gives? Who has theories?

… Sigh. Is it the weekend yet?!
